Assuming there’s no retention, this is a huge fleece and one of Tom Fitzgerald’s best trades as GM. Very impressive
A 6th round pick 2 years from now is functionally valueless
If there’s no salary retention then this is fine.
That’s not bad at all
Everything about this trade has been shocking (in a good way)
He’s at 2.2 mil so that is good.
I don’t know why the Islanders wanted Palat, but this is a pretty solid cap dump by us. Cleared almost 4M in cap space and only had to pay one actually good pick to do it. Couldn’t ask for much better in terms of return
Today is a good day for the franchise, Johnny Mac in the ring of honor and the worst contract I can remember this franchise ever signing is gone.
He’s gonna score against us next week lmao
No disrespect I like Palat but not the contract, but wow we made our competition for 3rd in the metro weaker while clearing cap space.
One underproductive player for another. I guess we free up some salary space
Tom Fitzgerald let’s see what other tricks are in your bag, no salary retained is massive
Well done Fitz. Legitimately well done. Saved $3.75m, got younger, and all it cost was a couple picks.
1. Why would NYI make this trade?
2. I’m surprised Palat would waive his NMC to go to a fringe playoff team (which I guess is better than a non playoff team).
3. I feel like this trade was possible in the offseason, otherwise high marks to Fitz.
Edit: forgot Palat’s NMC turned into a 10 team will-go list this season. Islanders (and Rangers) would make sense.
So when I go to the Islanders game next week I might see him on the ice. God I hope he doesn’t score on them.
We save $3.75m in yearly cap, $1.56m this year. Both contracts expire at the end of next season. Tsyplakov put up 35pts in 77 games last season, and had 39 PIMs. Has mostly been riding pine this season though. Only 27 games played and 2 pts.
Both clubs hoping the incoming player can play up to a higher level they have shown in the past.
Simply clearing some cap space is a big plus for the Devils.
Wooooow. LFG
Wow.
I am surprised and impressed.
Love this move, but now I’m racking my brain on what was the motive (beyond the obvious)….think we are going after Kyrou?
Anyone know anything about this guy?
Solid trade. Also happy because Palat seems like a good dude off ice and this means he doesn’t have to move, which he was trying to avoid
Can everyone that said Palat and Dougie are unmovable stfu now? Hockey GM’s are weird, one man’s trash is another’s treasure.
Fitz will find a deal where Hamilton gets moved and we get assets back as well, his cap hit for two years means nothing to quite a few teams who would love a RHD powerplay point man.
Great trade. Palat is completely off the books and we even get another bottom 6 addition with it. End of an error with that contract. Thanks for game 7 against the Rangers.
Well, he’s 6’3, over 200”lbs, and is Russian. Let’s see what’s he’s got. Welcome to hell!
Fantastic trade
Isles fan here. There is a solid NHL caliber player in Tsyplakov he showed it last year I think he just needs a change of scenery. As for Palat and his contract well I’m willing to see where it takes us. I think Darche has a plan being that he is a player from the Tampa cups and he’ll fit our system for why we need right now better than Tsyplakov. Also getting a 3rd back is a slap in the face to the rangers cuz now we basically got Soucy for free so we can both be happy about that right?
Glad the devils isles pipeline is still going strong
Wait, we can’t do that. The fan base needs to complain about Fitzgerald some more.
Maybe him and Grits will start yappin in russian and put up a ton of points
Setting aside all other things and just looking at this trade in isolation – this is fantastic work by Fitz.
No salary retention is absolutely massive. I’m honestly kind of shocked this is the deal.
