Chet Holmgren On Minneapolis: “I definitely think we’re too advanced as a species, just plain and simple, for things like that to be happening. No matter what your opinions are or what your beliefs are, you should be able to agree that nobody needs to be dying on the street.”

if i say this is a regular quote will i be crucified by redditors
People want a better answer which can make sense but then again these are pro athletes that are super young. Why does everyone expect Chet to make some profound stand
Brain deads on that sub more outraged about Chet not showing more emotion than the actual ICE murders themselves. Thought what Chet said was completely fine and showed he cared, I don’t get people.
Could he have had a better answer?
Sure but r/nba overreacting like always
Great answer by Chet, but what posses a reporter to put a player in the spot like that? Chet or any other player has a platform to speak on things if they want, and this kinda stuff in a presser kinda forces them to answer or public opinion becomes “well he wouldn’t answer cause he knows we won’t like what he said.” This would be like coming out of your job expecting to be asked how it went and then they are asking you about insane happenings and current events on national news all of a sudden.
Good job though to Chet. Handled it well.
I’m a little disappointed he didn’t say more. Nothing about the injustice that the reason these white people are dying is because of the greater issue that minorities are being targeted as the key issue in this country that is making peoples lives miserable. This is nazi Germany all over again.
r/nba being clowns as usual, not surprising. Any excuse to hate on OKC, and Chet specifically, after Wemby went with the approved redditor take on this situation. I thought Chet’s answer was great, personally.
Like MJ famously said, “Republicans buy sneakers, too.”. I do not blame players for refusing to take sides. Both are sides of the aisle are equally toxic for different reasons.
“He shouldve said “fuck ICE'” Like seriously… its clear as day Wemby doesnt care about what the organization wants players to say to stay on a neutral side.
Love it or hate it Chet said the professional thing, when put on the spot.
Like what he answers on the mic doesnt really reflect what he really feels… you can say that about any public figure commenting on controversial matters, add to that hes 23, some people are more prepared for that type of stuff than others..

r/NBA is a cesspool of degenerates
I don’t see anything wrong with the answer. I’m sure he’s not trying to spend a lot of time thinking about it because he’s worried about basketball. He’s a 23 year old basketball star, why are we expecting a nuanced take on something like this just because he’s from there?
He agrees it shouldn’t happen. Ask him about his 14 rebounds and let him do his job.
he’s also an early 20 something year old that simply shouldn’t be asked these kinds of questions on a national stage. I figure if someone wants to speak out, awesome. There are countless podcasts or social media or whatever for them to get their voice and opinion out there. But putting them on the spot with these types of questions is just wildly unfair, especially given the current state of affairs.
The new thread is more nuanced. Though I would’ve liked if he made a harder statement.
