Atlanta Falcons Face Tough Calls on Allgeier, GM Search & QB Fit
On The Locker Room, hosted by former Atlanta Falcon Brian Finneran alongside John Michaels and “Hometeam” Brandon Leak, the panel examined several key storylines shaping the Falcons’ offseason and offensive direction.
The discussion opened with the Falcons’ ability to retain backup running back Tyler Allgeier. The hosts weighed Allgeier’s value as a physical, reliable complement in the backfield against the realities of roster construction and salary-cap management, noting how his role fits into the team’s long-term offensive identity.
Attention then shifted to the Falcons’ ongoing general manager search. The panel emphasized the importance of alignment between the incoming GM and head coach Kevin Stefanski, particularly in building a roster that supports Stefanski’s offensive philosophy and stabilizes the franchise after recent front-office turnover.
The hosts also analyzed Stefanski’s decision to hand play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. They discussed what the move signals about Stefanski’s trust in Rees, the potential benefits of delegating play-calling, and how this could impact offensive rhythm and quarterback development.
Finally, the conversation centered on quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and the lack of snaps taken under center. Following former offensive coordinator Zac Robinson’s comments that he prefers his quarterbacks to operate under center, the panel debated whether Penix’s usage was a reflection of scheme preference or a limitation tied to Penix’s skill set and experience. The hosts explored how this disconnect may have affected Penix’s development and what it means for his fit in the offense moving forward.
Overall, the episode highlighted the interconnected nature of roster decisions, coaching philosophy, and quarterback development as the Falcons navigate a pivotal offseason.

Priority should be to bring back Kaden Ellis, he along with Diablo are the core pieces I think Allgier and even Pitts can be replaced.
Tyler Allgeier is in the same situation that Michael Turner was behind Ladanian Tomlinson. It worked out fine for Michael Turner. Similar type of player too.
Zach Robinson just told us that he screwed Penix in ATL
I’d give Algier 2.5 , Ellis 5+ and Pitts 12 million per. Hopefully Cunningham for GM. Penix better learn how to play under center or he’s going to b left behind. The hate Stefanski and Rees got in Cleveland is unfair. They had little to no talent to work with there. ATL will provide them a lot better to work with.
No need to pay a lot on TE if we’re going to be a running game.
Tyler will not be a falcon next season… Someone is going to pay him
The Falcons next great QB is in the 4th grade this year! We gonna shine in 2039!! We'll reach glory in 2040!! RISE UP!! 🤣🤣😎😎
I don’t believe it’s up to the falcons in Allgier coming back from my understanding he wants to start.. he not doing that in Atlanta no matter what they pay him
I like penix but his health makes this Qb room sketchy we not good and we not bad that don’t bold well for drafting a Qb.. if u need to…
Hometeam sounds like a real hater when it comes to Penix
I think penix got hurt in the game he dove for the td. Just like kirk last season he stayed out there playing even though he needed rehab. Results were worse play and season ending injury. Blame raheem.
Losing Tyler Allgeier would serious suck. Can't break up Thunder & Lightening!
Hometeam must get a bonus for being the black guy who argues so vehemently against Michael Penix. He's found one perceived weakness to hammer at and he won't let it go. How many yards did Kirk Cousins rush for? Do we even ask that question of him?
Need to sign Algeier. They have one of the best RB duos in the league. If they have a heavy run/play action offense you also don't want to overwork Bijian or be done for the season if he gets hurt. Also need to get rid of Pitts. He doesn't work for this team. They need a TE that can also run block. Penix is a bust too. I would almost guarantee Cleveland will have a better record than Atlanta this year.
Good grief, You guys are irritating in thinking he can't play under center. He has played QB all his life and he has been under center in Atlanta although not a lot but he has. Do the research.
Also Mcvay ran the pistol too but when you lose everything gets magnified.
