Yeah he wants to try to make his vote into profit *for himself*, much better.
That’s a polite, reasoned way of saying fuck off
Reasonable take. He doesn’t want to be dragged into this mess
Does Steve Smith make it this year?
That’s a lot of words to say “I didn’t vote for Bill”
What does #2 mean? Who is profiting from BB not being elected?
Tangentially related: DG is the man.
I’ve never met him, but he strikes me as an all time top 5 solid dude to grab a beer with.
1. I dont care about this guys vote or auditing every person’s vote
2. Anyone who didnt vote for BB should step away from the profession
3. His first point (“I’d be eager to share”) & his second (“I’m tired of participating in this scandal”) are mutually exclusive. “I want to” & “I don’t want to” can’t coexist. Which, see point 1, idc about, but its just funny how people’s logic works sometimes.
I get the feeling that he probably did vote for Bill, but doesn’t want to be in the middle of this foolishness and even if he revealed his vote, you probably wouldn’t believe him anyway
Pleading the Fifth doesn’t mean someone is guilty.
Not disclosing their vote doesn’t mean someone didn’t vote for Bill.
If you’ve read/followed Darin for any amount of time, you should know by now that he has an “old” way of thinking: we should be nicer to one another, we should be more patient as race, and that the devolution of societal norms is making us worse people. Him not disclosing his vote is him still trying to hold onto the “old way” of doing things, like how we didn’t used to make everything about politics.
This is what happens during the dead week before the super bowl. Sports writers need something to fart out. This is the perfect story. SB winning coach not elected when it seems obvious.
He had a part in Spygate. This is obvious why he wasn’t elected and the league helped cover it up. Belichek probably gets in next year.
Writers get to clutch their pearls again next year when he is elected, saying it shouldn’t have taken a 2nd year.
Is it possible to be a beat writer for a major professional sport and NOT feed outrage machines for other people’s profit?
He very clearly didn’t vote for him.
Fuck Bill,
First off he cheated and Goodell destroyed the tapes.
Second off I’m petty and he beat the Panthers in 2003 with that stolen information and I’ll go to my grave being bitter about it.
He is allowed to vote and operate how he sees fit in line with the policies in place, but if he genuinely didn’t want to feed the machine, he shouldn’t have said this or addressed it at all. I disagree with him completely, and it’s kind of silly on his part.
Saying you didn’t vote for him without saying you didn’t vote for him
Hell, I’ll say it on Uncle Darin’s behalf…
FUCK OFF, JEFF!!!
KPB!!!
I’ll go ahead and answer for him. He absolutely voted for Luke to make it.
Source: I know he actually watched every game he played.
Bellicheat got caught red handed cheating. He would never get my vote. Ever. Remember, that was just the time he was caught. How much cheating actually went on over the years. Sure, his teams played well, when they knew the opponent’s plays!
Cheater.
Those are reasonable points.
Definitely makes me want to know how he voted, though.
Well said by Gantt
I don’t think this is the admission some people are making it out to be. If the Hall asks him not to disclose, then he shouldn’t be expected to do so. If I was in his exact position I would give a very similar answer no matter which way I voted.
I would slightly prefer the votes be made public, but it would have to be an organizational decision rather than Gantt’s. I also think there would be a risk of harassment or more if they are made public, so maybe not.
Interestingly one of the other voters has come out saying he did vote for BB, but the main topic surrounding why others wouldn’t is he wasn’t punished for SpyGate properly and it’s been held against him substantially.
Not sure it wipes out everything else BB has done, but is interesting that SpyGate is coming back to bite him
Translated: I voted for Bill to get in and would love to let you know that but there’s HoF politics involved and I don’t want to get in the middle of grumpy old men who have been harboring grudges for decades.
If he is a panther writer and he voted yes, he should no longer be a panther writer.
I have no agenda, other than still being mad my panthers were cheated out of the Super Bowl.
Who gives a fuck what the hall asks you to disclose or not after this bullshit?? The hall has lost all credibility. Why would Darin want his credibility to go to shit to? Just own up to it and don’t be a pussy because a biased organization tells you not to. I’d want to lose my vote over this. Cowardly reasoning. No respect for this POS.
Belichick is a cheater whose teams sucked anytime he didn’t have Tom Brady, who promptly won a Super Bowl without Bill.
He deserves to be in and I’m a little surprised he’s not, but I understand a chunk of the voting block not wanting to vote for a cheater.
I like Darin’s writing, but he is a coward and always toes the league and team line VERY tightly, so this does not surprise
