This Is the Move the Pirates Have to Make at Third Base
Pirates fans lit up after recent comments laid out exactly how Pittsburgh can solve its third base problem — and honestly, it makes too much sense to ignore.
Tonight on NS9LIVE, we break down why Eugenio Suárez is the cleanest, and should be a realistic answer at 3B, what it would cost, and why the Pirates should be aggressive right now if they’re serious about winning. This isn’t about splash for the sake of splash — it’s about fit, urgency, and finally addressing a glaring hole.
We also dig into Jason Mackey’s latest Post-Gazette piece on Bryan Reynolds, what it says about his mindset, expectations, and how pivotal he is to the Pirates’ offensive ceiling moving forward.
Is this the moment the Pirates push their chips in — or another offseason of half-measures?

Suarez would be a decent addition on the right deal, though he'll carry 200 strikeouts and I can't imagine he'll hit more than 30 homers playing half his games in PNC. Plus they still need a fairy reliable starting pitcher. I don't imagine they're shelling out another 30 million on next year's payroll. If they can get a Jung or Vientos for a couple of prospects I would prefer that. They need a potential longer term fix at 3B. Suarez isn't that.
Stars really are aligned. Bucs DESPERATELY need a 3B RH power bat. He’s a good clubhouse guy, he’d just need a 2-3 yr deal. He would not block anyyyybody. Plus, he’d reinvigorate the fan base. Checks so many boxes.
He wants to play for a contender, but only Seattle and Boston need 3B. Both have top prospects that can play 3B, they prioritize defense, and/or would rather trade for Donovan/Paredes/Hoerner/Abrams. Also, he SUCKED for Seattle… his market has tanked. There was no suarez pivot after Bregman/Bellinger signed.
Even if you think a contender might sign him as DH, most contenders are set at DH. Or they’d just go after Ozuna ~2/24?
I’m guessing Bucs have an offer of 2/36 and Suarez is waiting, hoping Boston or Seattle offer at least 1/18.
What he really needs is a phone call from Skenes
