No wonder why everyone is injured

  1. Richest team in the league choosing to get rid of competent staff responsible for player conditioning on a team full of 30+ aging players is certainly a choice that inspires confidence in the team’s future…

  2. This team is so fucked going forward. I’ve already come to terms with the fact my dad will never see the Leafs win a cup. And now I’m coming to terms that I won’t either. They have and always will be their own worst enemy

  3. You mean there’s no one stopping Willy from eating gas station sushi now?!?!

Fuck sakes MLSE, just keep gouging.

  4. For people who don’t know Dr. Jeremy Bettle was hired by Dubas in 2015 and left for the Ducks in 2019. He was replaced by Rich Rotenberg. Not long after Shanahan lost his job with the Leafs, Rotenberg left the Leafs for the Penguins. The Leafs never replaced his role.

So jobs were not cut. They were just not replaced once they left.

    —edit—

Yes I know the position isn’t filled, and it’s the same outcome as cutting the position. But there is a slight difference. I wonder though if there is a sports science department, just not someone at the direct head of it. The person leading the department might report to Pelley and not to a Dr Bettle or Rotenberg. Also to note, the article did address Dr. Bettle as “Dr. Bettle” and didn’t address Rich Rotenberg as “Dr. Rotenberg”, so the person leading the department might not have to be a Dr.

  5. How is it remotely acceptable they were going through with job cuts while they team had our greatest streak of success in quite a long time?

  6. Big surprise.

Multi billion dollar company cutting costs at every corner to make more money without caring about how it impacts everything else.

You can’t run a machine by taking a bunch of cogs out and expecting it to run the same.

  7. Rogers needed to recover buying out Bell somehow.

Think of that when they tell you their priorities are winning.

    Bottom line always comes first

  8. I don’t think this is a MLSE or Rogers problem because the Raptors are notorious in the NBA for having arguably the best sports medicine department in the League, while the Jays in recent years have put more money toward sports medicine and cut down the number of TJ surgeries needed for pitchers

  9. With each passing season, I become more resentful being born a leafs fan and wish I grew up choosing the habs as my favourite hockey club.

  10. If the consultants can’t see that losing that role/team/department, maybe you need to stop paying consultants.

Unless you’re just paying them to find a result so you can justify whatever you want to do anyway.

Either way, not really one to trust ‘consultants’

This reeks of us not having an advanced stat department until either Lou put Dubas in charge of it or Dubas himself had to go do it once he became the GM

  11. Wow this is a bad look, prioritizing profits over the athletes health that make you your millions

  12. Wait I’m sorry….. RESOURCE ISSUE?!??! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  13. My hot take, they’re cheaping out on the Leafs because of the amount of money they are sinking into the Jays. Leafs make obscene amounts of money no matter what so cutting costs there means they can drop money on the Jays who only make obscene amounts of money when they are good. Even though MLSE and the Jays aren’t under the same umbrella, they have the same majority owner.

  14. Wow…. This totally explains it… No wonder moral seems low a well… Management isn’t taking care of the players..

  15. This team is an absolute disaster at an organizational level. Might be back to the dark ages.

  16. It’s like the government getting rid of all the support staff in education. Those are the people that keep the train running. Not off the tracks like this shit show.
