Kevin Stefanski: Falcons need to hire a GM before I can say who our quarterbacks will be

This shouldn’t be surprising. The GM constructs the roster and will have major influence on who we sign to play while Penix recovers. Obviously Stekanski can’t say who the QB will be before the GM makes those decisions.
Ive got a bad feeling he is going to try and bring cousins back. We won all those games because of Bijan, not kirk
Perfectly cromulant response
Psssst…..it is Kirk.
There would be no reason to say that unless it was cousins. We going to run it back!!!!
I mean given the language they’ve been using since the old regime was fired, it seems glaringly obvious it’s Penix.
Code for “that’s a clown question bro. I’ll see you in mini camp”.
I dunno why people are reading this as “it’s Kirk”, when he’s literally just saying “look, the guy who gets the final say on our QB personnel is not in the building yet, so don’t ask me who our QB will be yet.”
The answer is Penix, at least for now, whether you believe in him or not. Cousins is as good as gone because of the contract restructuring, and he wants to be a full time starter somewhere. We’ll need a good backup/mentor in case Penix isn’t ready by week 1, and someone like Flacco on a 1 year contract makes a lot of sense.
Then, if after 2027 Penix is clearly not the guy and hasn’t shown signs of improvement, you’re looking at a way better QB class and a way better FA class for QBs.
Not a big deal of a response, but it is a big deal we still don’t have a GM.
I hope it’s Aaron Rodgers.
I mean this is a nothing answer. It’s also the right answer. He’s like 30% of the decision. Should probably wait until we bring in the guy that’s closer to 50% of the decision
I feel like what ends up happening is they roll with Penix, Cousins, and trade for Dillon Gabriel with the intention is to start Penix. Both Cousins and Gabriel have played in Stefanski’s offense and Cousins is gone after this season but you potentially have a cheap backup after with Gabriel.
The interviewer was asking him a pretty detailed question more specifically about Kirk and whether the plan would still be to release him as everyone expected, when considering Penix’s injury and Stefanski’s prior familiarity with Kirk at Minnesota.
The headline is framed in a way to make it sound like Stefanski isn’t entirely sold on Penix. Whether that ultimately ends up being true or not, it’s not what Stefanski actually is saying. He was making a point to not commit either way regarding Kirk. Thus far, Stefanski has been very complimentary of Penix.Â
Bro if we get Kevin & Kirk part ii I’m gonna be so fucking hyped!
Idc who the coach, GM or QB is I just wanna get back to the playoffs smh

[The context of his response matters here. This is the actual interview.](https://youtu.be/LtB5MeW54Yk?si=5-Wzbto0M4Si3A4U&t=1586)
