Do the Mariners Have the “Budget” to SIGN Eugenio Suarez?

The Mariners made a move by trading for career minor league catcher Jhonny Pereda from the Minnesota Twins. The move we want the Mariners to make at this point is to re-sign Eugenio Suarez to try and give Rick Rizzs the best Mariners season ever as his last.

  5. As far as Geno goes, you'll probably get 20-30 HR's, .220 ish avg, 30%+ strikeout rate, sub par defense, and a great clubhouse guy. How much do you want to spend on a DH that will likely be worth less than 1.0 War?

  6. The simple answer is No. Geno is not in ownerships budget. I hate to say it but I don't think this lineup can really afford to have another potential "bad bat" in it. At this point it looks like we are going with Cole at 2B and Ben at 3B. Neither were really all that good at the plate so can we really have a, potentially, primary DH that hits the same or possibly worse then one of them??? If we end up going with Ben and Cole at 3rd and 2nd respectively that is saying they expect Cal to repeat what he did last season or at the very least come very close to it. We have to get a proven hitter in this lineup and I just don't think Geno is that guy, IMO!

  9. No the Mariners ownership is not cheap, they can got out and get a big time free agent, if you want to have to pay high ticket prices. The ownership is do a outstanding job, it is easy to say they are cheap. Owner ingredients a major league teams is very expensive. Having a hight payroll doest guarantee you a championship, look at the Mets and the Phillies just to name two.

  13. Wouldn't bother. Emerson is a top 3 prospect in MLB and we have Young, maybe Arroyo, Williamson, etc. If we go 1 month into the season and we see those guys not being quite ready, okay maybe sign him.

  14. No on Geno. Not worth it and doesn't fit current team structure. If you sign Geno then either Ben doesn't play or canzone/Raley/ref don't play. Who you trading and are they worse than Geno. Finally, he likely eats up a lot of salary left and costs possible trades at deadline….it shouldn't, but it would
