Blues GM Doug Armstrong ’embarrassed’ with team’s position in standings
January 29, 2026
I was listening to Jeff Marek and Greg Wyshynski on the Daily Faceoff podcast today and he played the clip from the article. They tore into Army quite a bit, specifically about letting Petro walk.

Might be the core players…
not embarrassed enough to try to fix it

You should be embarrassed bud. It’s the team you fuckin made
He’s leaving at the end of the year, right? He probably doesn’t care that much to fix it.
Army rides off into the sunset backlit by his dumpster fire of a team while Steen looks on, eyebrows starting to singe off.
Remember when we won the cup then the team was completely dismantled after that? Pietrangelo remembers.
Maybe you should have tamed your expectations – Cam Fowler ? Really ?
Yeah how’s that “re-tooling” going Dougy? same shit different spot in the standings
Would keeping Petro fix where we are now? He currently isn’t playing and doesn’t look like he ever will again. Sure we wouldn’t have Faulk or Krug but idk if one guy really changes where we’re at now.
To me the biggest issue with Army has always been offering extensions he didn’t need to to guys like Leddy, Fowler, and Buch while letting guys like Dunn and Walman go for nothing
The dick swinging match between him and Pietrangelo was the start of it – felt like we’ve been scrambling to plug holes since. Broberg has been a homerun, jury is still out on Holloway with the injuries that follow him and the the rest meh.
I understand why people want him out earlier than the natural progression of things, but this candidness is precisely why so many people trust him and don’t see a need to “punish” him for results.
He’s accountable and he’s honest.
I’ve compared the two an annoying amount of times, but it’s what makes him so much different from his former counterpart down Clark Ave. He actually takes enough pride in this team to be embarrassed. And he’ll make adjustments to get on a better path.
He’s at fault for the stumbles. But he actually admits that he’s at fault for it. That goes a long way.

Steen, save us
This entire team has been snake bit throughout the season..its so weird to see it happening to everyone at the same time.
This is a better team, he knows it and so does the rest of the team. IDK what the answer is, but the look like they are thinking too much, and are hesitating because they don’t want to screw up. Chalk this up as a lost season and figure it out.
Buchnevich just needs to get out of his own head it seems. Thomas needs to shoot more but also needs a winger who loves to shoot the puck.
Kyrou has played well, but has suffered from a revolving door of linemate because of all the injuries
Neighbors was playing fantastic early on, and when he went down, it took something from the team they haven’t been able to find. I think we should say “we had a bad year, let’s move on and forget it happened”.
I am hoping Mailloux finds someone to work with him one on one in the off-season, learn to be in position and to use his leverage better. He doesn’t need to be Garth Butcher, he just needs to play a game like Petro did.
The Blues are missing 5 of their top 6 right now, and it’s understandable they would struggle. But I like what we have seen from the young guys.
Fire Chiarelli
the biggest current problem is the fact that at least 3 of the softest players in blues history have big contracts that they are not living up to and they’re not making the teammates around them better to make up for their statistically awful seasons. contracts to those 3 players is a more glaring problem than anything else armstrong has done.

FUCKING EMBARRASSING!!!
“embarrassed” and yet he’s the one who built and gutted the roster lmaoo
Thank fuck this is his last year, but as of right now he’s really fucked over Steen when he takes the reigns
Why is anyone surprised? This has been Army’s MO for his entire tenure. 2019 was the statistical anomaly that season was pretty much identical to this one through January.
The pandemic killed this team. We would have won another cup either in 20/21/22.
See that’s the bad narrative, Armstrong didn’t let petrol walk. Petro was never signing here. That’s what most people don’t understand. There’s no way in hell that petrol was gonna sign here. His wife didn’t want to stay in St. Louis even though she’s from St. Louis. They wanted to go someplace different.
Good. They should light him up. He’s done some good but his goddamn ego ruined our shot at being a sustainable contender for several years.
This is not me defending Army at all. But he/Steen have put some really good pieces together. We are a rough team now. We don’t have a Bedard or Cellebrini on our team. But we have a good core of guys that are going through some growing pains and we see the talent. I think we could be 2-3 real good pieces from at contender. This is not our year we know it. We all wear our hearts on our sleeves when it comes to this team. So I understand the frustration.
I’ve fought this most of the year bc I can’t stand losing. And in the moment I might say things with my emotions but we have been absolutely hammered by injuries this year.. Thomas, Jake, kyrou, Hollywood.. those 4 core pieces have all been injured at one point or another.. all 4 have missed at least 10 games.. that’s huge.. and honestly it seems like we have had the worst luck of anyone when it comes to the bounces of the puck.. I don’t remember what game it even was but there was a shot from the point that was redirected, hit a shin pad, hit a skate, then went just rolled into the net like it was attached to a string… mean while we have wide open nets and the puck rolls off the stick, hits the post and falls harmlessly off the glass.
Chances are we have 1 – 4 draft pick as it stands now. Maybe get some new talent and build from there with Steen. What choice is there?
This team needs a high draft pick that can be a gamechanger. Look aroud the league and all the top teams have them.
It’s the Blues turn now, play the young guys, this team isnt even in that bad of shape and could turn it around quick with a nice high end draft pick
Needs to go, it’s that simple, can only hold so many coaches accountable until you have to look in the mirror.
