Just as suspected: Franz rushed

  1. Nothing I hate more. Gross incompetence. In a billion dollar enterprise, things like this should result in firings.

  2. It wasn’t rushed. The decision was made as it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Franz. Pretty the organization allowed him to make the call.

He took the risk to play in his hometown. Franz isn’t going to forget that.

  3. It really doesn’t bother me. Was really important for Franz to play in that game I’m sure. He’ll be fine.

  4. We needed to do that. This was the first NBA game in not just his countr, but his CITY. There’s not a single game that would mean more to him on a personal level. Also, I’d love if we would be able to win without depending on Franz too much. We should be. That team is more than good enough.

  5. He was always going to play in Germany and, frankly, it was probably worth it for both the Magic and Franz. The opportunity to play with his NBA team in from his home country may not ever happen again, let alone WITH his brother. Not only did it help Orlando cement themselves as this generations “German Team,” it also helps paint them in a very player-friendly light that they allowed him to live out a dream, even though it cost the team in the long run. If they had blocked his return, I cant imagine the amount of resentment the Wagner Bros would have held against the Magic (and German fans for that matter.)

  6. The bigger question to me is why the hell did he play in London?

The guy had been out injured for a month and this org immediately plays him 25 minutes in consecutive games? Whatever happened to the minutes restrictions protocol that has been a staple of this team under Weltman?

    Amateur hour.

  7. Eh whatever, at this point getting a W in Berling was one of the few highlights of the season for the team as a whole so far. He’ll be back after the All-Star break, we’ll be the 7th or 8th seed

  8. I find it more likely that Franz was the one who rushed himself back rather than the Magic rushed him back.

Yes, Magic should try to protect players from themselves, but if it seemed like he was “probably” okay maybe they felt it was worth it given how much that game meant to him.

Hard to fault anyone’s decision making here.

  9. Small price to pay for Franzy. That was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him. He will make it up 10 fold. Relax, you bums. Some things are more important than January regular season games vs Charlotte. (Actually most things are!)
