Our goal differential is so much higher than every team around us in the standings. That’s because goal differential only accounts for even strength goals. We’re getting murdered by PP and PK. I know it also indicates that we win big games and lose close games (which also isn’t good). But the special teams are the bigger indicator,

  1. That is not true. You’re thinking of the +/- statistic for players. Team goal differential is simply goals scored minus goals against. The only exception is in shootouts, where the winning team is credited with 1 goal for, and the losing team is credited with 1 goal against.

  2. That’s not how that works. All that stat is that we scored 20 more than the teams scored on us. We win by a larger margin most of the time.

  3. You’ll need to look at advanced stats sites for special teams numbers. We are middle of the pack for goals allowed 4v5. We also are second for penalty minutes taken once already a man down. Our discipline needs to be better as we have a mediocre PK made worse by players taking more penalties than needed.
