  1. I wonder if Darche has a plan here. Drouin, Palat, and Stamkos were linemates for a few years in Tampa. Drouin and Palat were grinders who setup Stamkos for goals. They're only missing one piece. Stamkos has been rumored to be on the block and the Isles have been rumored to have inquired. Why else would they swallow Palat's $$$. Those two could entice Stamkos to wave his NTC.

  2. Lightning/Darche connection with Palat. This is why Stamkos rumors have been linked to the Islanders as well. Roy was getting frustrated with Tsyplakov…a player with good skills but can't seem to put it together.

  3. The irony is that Lou Lamoriello was in New Jersey during the John MacLean Ring of Honor game when this was announced. This would never have been announced in-game under his watch (over either team), though I wouldn’t put it beyond him to work a deal in this kind of scenario. As an aside, it sure was nice to see Jacques Lemaire again. I assume his coaching days are over, but we can dream…

  4. I would like to see the Devils get a center and a guy (or 2) who can fight. Since Fitzgerald pretty much traded or let go the few fighters on the team and the center depth is thin. But I don't see good players wanting to waive to go to NJ. So options will be limited or nonexistent.

  5. Realistically, Isles traded Tysp for Soucy, Palat, 3rd, 6th. Its only a 3.75 cap hit next season for the isles. They solidified their 3rd pair D and got an actual bottom 6 forward. Tysp didnt fit system or roster, hes really not a bottom 6 type of player. Also a regular scratch.

  6. what a mistake by the Islanders…why? and I hate it when a good young player falls out of favor just bc the coach doesn't like his style of play…Coaches need to get over it, stop ruining players. Just like Tocchett in Vancouver, ruining Podkolzin, he was in the doghouse SO much…look how much he has flourished in Edm when given the opportunity to play a reg shift

  7. It’s an obvious win for the Devils but I do like the move for the Islanders. The cap hit is bad but the Islanders aren’t in a crunch, Palat is a good defensive forward who can forecheck and backcheck well. I would be willing to bet he’s a good match on a Palat-Pageau-Holmstrom 3rd line.

If it doesn’t work, the islanders have 22m in cap space next season with limited UFA’s that need to be re-signed and Palat’s contract will be up at the same time time a lot of those Darche 2 year contracts are up after next season.

  8. I like it, but there needs to be more. We need more scoring, and now that we have the cap space to do it Fitz needs to make another move or 2

  9. I would've asked for more draft picks from New Jersey, but Tsyplakov was making 2.25 million to sit, and each contract only has 1 year left after this year. Islanders are basically playing 2.75 million for a veteren who fits better on a 3rd or 4th line then Tsyplakov does, and since the Isles have lots of cap space I think this trade is fine. I might have blinders since I love Ondrej Palat.

  10. Isles fans like myself are pretty excited primarily for Palat's leadership, grit, experience etc. They needed someone else to help show some of the younger guys how it's done. He is on 3.75 mil more than Tspy and only for 1.3 years and we get 2 picks. Solid deal but we are not expecting his to light up the scoresheet by any means. Wishing the best for Tspy, he certainly has talent but he was just not going to work in Roy's system.

  11. As a NY Isles fan, I REALLY hope it works out 💪🏻 for Tsyplakov. Maxim Tsyplakov is your typical 27 yr old 6'3" 201 lbs Russian hockey player who never shy's away from contact and that's exactly what NJ needs & he has all the speed and playmaking ability to be a really good player for the NJ Devils. As Devil & Islanders fans will tell you, "yeah we play in the same division but it's not a blood feud rivalry." The NY Islanders and NJ Devils have their separate rivalries with the hated Rags. We'll see what line Roy puts Palat on? Though it really doesn't matter. Roy changes up lines pretty frequently.

  12. Lou was known for making trades; he never sat idly by. For instance, he forked over a number 1st and 2nd pick to Ottawa for JP Pageau the year they made their first run to the semis under Trotz and lost to Tampa. He also traded for veteran Andy Greene ahead of the playoffs. He was in his mid-thirties, and he was dealt for a second-round pick. Lou also dealt a 3rd pick to Toronto for Pierre Engvall, an ill-advised trade for an underachieving soft player. In 2021, the Islanders forked over a first-rounder in that year's draft and a fourth-rounder in 2022 for Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac. In his best trades for in January 2023, the Islanders acquire Bo Horvat from VAN for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Räty & a 2023 conditional first
