[Hayes] Twins employees ‘blindsided’ as team mutually parts ways with Derek Falvey

  1. This article plus the Gleeman and the Geek pod definitely paints a picture that Falvey walked due to unreasonable expectations from the new Pohlad

Tom Pohlads expects a competitive team no matter what. But wont provide the funding. Falvey knows it wont be. Falvey walks so he isnt fired when we have a bad 2026

Shelton and Zoll are lame ducks in my mind who’ll be thrown straight under the bus.

Im not a fan of Falvey. But i wont begrudge him this. If his expectation was either full rebuild (i.e trading Ryan, Lopez), or more funding then he has every right to quit rather than try his best and be fired

Gleeman was diplomatic on the pod. But got the sense he thinks Pohlad is a dick based on his latest media session, and that he’s of the opinion that Falvey quit

I will admit i gave Falvey a lot of heat under the assumption that he was the one digging his heels in about a rebuild. But sentiment seems to be he may have been willing to sell this offseason and rebuild it.

One source said Falvey “sensed future complications” – aka he knew this wouldn’t be competitive and the expectations were unrealistic and he may be fired after this season when they dont reach it

Edit: from Ken Rosenthal “maybe he didnt see the future quite in the same way that ownership does” – aka would have rebuilt where Pohlad wont

Edit 2: this would also explain why the FO seemingly suddenly pivoted to being in on Peralta (per Rosenthal) and *allegedly* in on Mackenzie Gore (per Doogie) – cheap players available in trade that raise the floor and the ceiling. Im expecting Bello, Donovan and Abrams to all be looked at as ultimately Zoll is rolling the dice to keep his job

  2. blind sided is an odd way to describe Popping champagne and dancing.

just imagine the party when the pohlads finally fuck off after the lockout.

  3. nobody in the sports would should be blindsided by changes after losing. that is arrogant

  4. I don’t even know if it’s “baseball goals”, but probably revenue and profit goals. Tom has expectations. Falvey is a bright guy. If he wasn’t aligned and didn’t think he could get the baseball and the business to the expectations of the owner… then that’s it. You either walk out today, or get fired in October.

  5. Not sure how they are blindsided. They just said on GG that they knew this was going to happen before Twinsfest…
