ESPN’s predictions for WAJ and Stroud extensions

  1. >So, what’s the sweet spot? Can Stroud top $50 million per year, a number that 11 current QB contracts exceed? Can he top $55 million per year, which is the number currently shared by Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Jordan Love and Trevor Lawrence?

    >Houston is already scheduled to pay Stroud $5.697 million in 2026, and the fifth-year option number for 2027 is $26.53 million. So, the Texans have him for two more years at just over $32 million total (with the potential to franchise-tag him after that). That’s a steal as long as he’s even a replacement-level starter. They could tear up the final two years of his deal and replace it with, say, a new five-year, $250 million contract that ostensibly averages $50 million per year. But from the team’s standpoint, that would average only about $43.6 million in new money once we take out that $32 million he’s currently owed. That would follow the pattern the Texans set last year with cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., who signed his extension six weeks before the fifth-year option decision deadline and thus never had his option picked up.

    >Stroud’s situation is one to watch carefully. Again, the Texans tend to be generous with their extensions, so we lean toward predicting they’ll find a way to lock him up long term this offseason. But if this season has given them any pause, or if Stroud’s demands come in too high, this could drag out.

  2. Would be insane, but I suoosoeni understand the need to show confidence if you are going to sign him? And comparable signings make it so he has to make so much, but I’m not convinced. No way. He’d need to have an out of this world season next year. But hey, it’s not my money. 🤷🏽

  3. Am I crazy for thinking that I would rather rock with Mills than signing CJ to a huge extension? Unless CJ can prove himself next year ofc.

  4. I believe WAJ gets an extension and CJ has to wait a year, or possibly two, to prove he is our future QB1. I hope CJ understands that he blew this playoff run for his team and the fans. I still believe he can and will be our QB1 for a long time.

CJ you gots to Get Your Mind Correct! (GYMC)

  5. Just so you guys know ESPN and other publishers purposefully ragebait with “these predictions” so it gets more clicks

  6. I think that is a bit high for both of them. Of course WAJ is probably the most important piece of our team rn, but signing anyone other than a QB more than 10% of the salary is saying goodbye to being a contender. Ideally, Stroud’s contract is half of this.

  7. Anderson deserves the whole bag but regardless these figures are getting out of control. Beers at nfl games will be $30 real quick

  8. How about cj gets 50 million guaranteed over 3 years with options to extend, and 110 million bonus over another 4 years if he wins a Super Bowl in that first three year deal.

  9. If they can afford that for WAJ okay, but I wouldn’t give CJ that kind of money before next season

  10. Why the fuck would we pay Stroud anything?

If someone else wants him for $56m AAV, they can have him.

No extension. Let him play the year out. If he’s the same, offer a cheaper deal and draft another QB. He can play on the 5th year option for $26m.
