I’m a nerd who thinks in charts and graphs. Woke up this morning wanting to see a progression of Jags history in 20 game snapshots. Pulled all regular season and playoff results from SHRPSPORTS.com, threw them in Excel, and made this.
Nothing earth shattering but interesting to see.
Best 20 game stretch – 17-3 Week 17 of 1998 through the 1999 divisional playoff, 257 point differential.
Two losses to the Titans (fuck the Titans and their stolen playbook) and a loss to the Jets in the 98 playoffs (the 1999 AFC Title Game loss to the Tits dropped us back to 16-4). The first game of this stretch was MNF in Jax against the Cordell Stewart Steelers. Jaxon De Ville got the NFL to update their mascot rules after he spent the game stomping on a cardboard bus behind the Steelers huddle turning timeouts. Also, this was the first Jags game I attended.
The Del Rio Jags topped out at a 15-5 stretch from week 14 of 2004 through week 17 of 2005, but only posted a +100 point differential. This era’s best point differential came during a 13-7 stretch from week 13 of 2006 to week 7 of 2007 at +147. Good team overshadowed by the Manning Colts.
The Bortles / Marrone Jags topped out at 13-7 over 20 games, with their best point differential being +176 from 2016 week 16 through the 2017 AFC Divisional.
The Lawrence / Pederson era Jags peaked at a 15-5 stretch from week 12 of 2022 through week 12 of 2023. It was the first time we hit 15 wins in a 20 game stretch since 2007, but the +66 point differential showed that there was some luck involved.
The most recent 20 games, beginning with Dougie P’s final two games and through Liam’s first season saw us back up to 14-6, with a point differential of 139. More signs that the future might be bright. Interestingly this recent peak is the inverse of the Pederson collapse from late 23 through 24, when the team bottomed out with a 6-14 stretch and -139 point differential.
The less said about the 20/21 Jags the better.

I’ll just agree with whatever this data says lol
Wait, did they steal a playbook?
As a engineer who dabbles in data science, all I have to say is: line go up good 👍🏼
Fr though, cool post
