[Gleeman] Derek Falvey has led the Twins’ front office since 2017 and was elevated last year to a dual team presidency of baseball and business operations. Jeremy Zoll will now lead baseball ops and Tom Pohlad “will assume interim oversight of business operations.”

  1. That screams to me that it was a difference over the business side.

Obviously the ticket sales, revenue and renewals have fallen off a cliff since Falvey took over the business side. But it also sounded like Falvey wasnt always “in charge” of the business aspects.

Think we will find a lot out in the coming days

Unfortunately Zoll being POBO screams business as usual

  2. So Falvey did exactly what the Pohlad’s asked of him, and he’s pissed that the team is losing money? Now whose fault is that, exactly?!

  3. Imagine how much harder the Pohlad family would be savaged in this state (media, politicians etc) if they weren’t the darling benefactors of the local political elite. It’s a disgrace how they run this team.

  4. None of them are business geniuses, clearly.
Do they not realize no one wants to go to the games or buy merch anymore? After the absolutely demoralizing trades last year and the putrid play of the second half as a result, can’t they do the math?

  5. Falvey: “Hey, man, this shit sucks and you dont let me do anything anyway. Can I leave?”

    Pohlad: “yeah sure man whatever.”

  6. This shit is gonna be a garbage fire for the next 10 years until the pohlads finally, actually, sell the team.

  7. The reality is we are a city with 4 (5 if you count soccer) major sports teams. There’s only so much money to go around. They’re likely getting killed by not only individual ticket sales, but more importantly suite sales that major companies around the area purchase.

  8. Business will improve with an energized fan base. That will only happen if the team is designed to go for a title. One hand washes the other. You want fan financial support? Show us something.

    It’s that simple.

  9. What a fucking mess. My only hope is Luke, Royce, Brooks, Buck, Ryan, and our starting pitchers can somehow have a “magic” season and make watching somewhat fun

  10. Tom Pohlad strikes me as an American Business Genius. The guy they hire from outside to come in, pretend to be cool for five minutes, then fire half the staff and demand impossible growth from the remaining half without offering any solutions or even awareness of what work needs to be done.

I fully expect his role will be to say “we plan to be competitive” at Twins Fest and make sure whoever is in the FO keeps payroll at (current year) – 10% going forward, and that the Tom Pohlad Twins are gonna make the Rockies look like the Dodgers.

  11. It’s incredible how many business are in a rush to be inconsistent and unreliable these days. We will all totally buy your poorly planned, badly executed products. The twins are at the front of that bus.
