Nah… major mistake when they need a right handed power bat in the lineup and a logjam in the outfield. I’m sorry but there’s an overwhelming logic to trading him for that – the team is unbalanced right now and desperate for either a SS, 3B or 1B who can slug. That they’re basically multiple infielders short right now is absurd.
It’s not that he’s not a good player, but when you have two elite defenders and a rising superstar, where does he play that doesn’t both 1. Hamper Roman’s growth defensively and 2. Upset Duran by predominantly DH’ing him. And this is before you even add Masa and KC into the discussion
Make the best deal you can and move on.
Most likely scenario is that they wait until teams get desperate and actually give a package that’s worth Duran. Sign Geno, he’ll mash and be an alright defender
I went into offseason hoping he was traded but in the absence of signing Bregman or a Schwarber / Alonso I now think Red Sox need to keep Duran. Jarren Duran has been one of the best payers on the team past three years. He’s a huge piece of this lineup regardless of any move Breslow makes for an infielder.
I think we’ll see an uptick versus last year from JD and an average performance from last three seasons. Which will be really strong.
Not if it means moving Ceddanne to 2nd
Never have more words been spilled anticipating a non-event. We’ve been trading or retaining Duran for months. I like him, and hope we can keep him and just release Yoshida. But the FO doesn’t give two shits what I or anyone here wants. I guess we’ll just keep saying g “trade him” or “keep him” until he is traded or leaves via free agency. Sigh.
I don’t see Duran in the same light as say, the 2023 season. Back then he was a force to be reckoned with due to his speed on the base paths. A buzz was created whenever he got on and he was a disruption for other teams to contend with. Sort of like Ricky Henderson or Lou Brock in their primes.
Somehow that whole aura about him has waned. He’s still fast and still a pretty good player but he no longer generates the same preoccupation in the other teams’ heads. A few years ago you might delay a trip out to the garage to go fetch something because Duran just walked and you want to stay and see what havoc he might cause on the base paths. By the 2025 season such drama had disappeared.
I’m fine with him being traded
Sell high for big bat
Sell high, move him
We have a lot of depth in the outfield and none in the infield. Unless we are assuming Roman and Wilyer are going to get hurt again this season for extended periods and Campbell is a bust, or Duran is going to play 2nd base this year since that’s something an amazing teammate like Duran should be willing to try to do and Cora clearly isn’t afraid to ask or let other OFs to play 2nd base, I don’t think we “need” Duran.

[He was their best positional player each of the past 2 seasons](https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&type=8&month=0&ind=1&team=3&startdate=&enddate=&season1=2024&season=2025&sortcol=22&sortdir=default&qual=10) and half of this fanbase wants to get rid of him lol
