I think we should highly expect a trade back at 7. The rookie contract doesn’t make great financial sense for a safety at 7 and Bain/Reese/Bailey will all be gone before we pick unfortunately.

Who’s going to want to trade up? Edge Rusher is the only premium position that have blue chippers (or at least close) and I think it’s more likely we’ll stick and pick, bc there’s not really anyone I see worth trading up for
We’d need a trade partner remember
I just don’t think this is how teams should or do draft. If you love Downs at 7 you take him, I don’t care about a couple million extra a year or whatever. We have all the cap space in the world and it’s only going up. Also this idea of “trading back” is meaningless if there isn’t another team offering good value for your pick, and I just don’t see teams lining up for the 7th pick in this draft
Just take whichever WR they like. It’s an emergency.
Never thought of that. Another thing to consider, so glad I don’t have to make these decisions.
I think they should just stand and pick in a weak class, its more important to get an elite player than a few mid players.
Who cares about that if he’s as good as advertised? We shouldn’t pass on great talent for okay talent simply for money. Plus, it’s only 9 mill AAV. We’ll be okay financially I promise lol

I think that’s his music….
If downs is truly an elite player then take him. It’s not like we don’t have the cap space. Passing on a potentially elite player because of a few million is stupid
No, we desperately need superstars. Silly to pass over elite talent because their first contract isn’t at a “discount.”
It takes 2 to trade, and only for the right deal. Risk of trading back and missing the elite guy needed is too much for me. Whoever is best player there at 7, take him.
“Oh no, we got an All-Pro, but we didnt get a big enough discount. Should have drafted the 3rd best guy at a high money position instead”
“And with the 7th pick in the 2026 NFL draft, the Washington Commanders select…”
In this scenario you take Downs. Hell, I’d take Downs with Bailey and Bain still on the board. Worrying about pay and passing up the potential best player in the draft because he plays safety, which we have basically nothing at the position, is absurd.
We have plenty of cap room. Don’t need to get cute here.
When are we going to learn to not pass on elite talent? We missed on Hamilton, we missed on Ganzo, we traded back instead of taking Dejean. You don’t pass on the guy.
I hope we get an Edge but we’ve got enough cap space to do whatever they want with that pick.
Having cap flexibility is nice. But why have fans here become so obsessed with the cap lately? Everything is about what the team can’t or shouldn’t do because of the cap or future cap space. Just take the BPA and move on.
You realize teams have to want to trade up right?
Yes we know this. But we’re at pick 7 and if we’re not going to pick them and trade, what makes you think someone else will trade up to pick them? We need to take a dominant play maker at 7. Doesn’t matter position.
Brugler has a point, except that there’s a significantly higher chance that Styles or Downs at say $12.5 million per year would play closer to the level of top money players at their position than if you drafted say DE3-4 and think your saving paying him that money but his play is no where close to the $35-40 million guys or a WR in this draft coming anywhere close to the guys making $30-32 million like he says.
I get the positional value argument but there’s cases where the top overall talent at a less premium position is worth it to take.
Bain and Bailey will be available this thinking is goofy. Even if they want a safety or linebacker they’re still signing them for only 9m a year. That’s about what the average mid lb/ s get paid anyway lol.
This is a bad take IMO.
One we need a trade partner and by this logic no one is trading up to take a lesser talent.
Two it implies if we can’t trade back we should take a lesser talent for the same slot value just because they play position x?
I just disagree. If Downs can be the impact safety that his high end is projected for, he is worth whatever lack of discount we don’t get by picking him at 7.
People used that exact same logic with Kyle Hamilton and now he’s just made his 3rd all pro selection.
If we love Downs, we take Downs. I get the sentiment that taking a safety top 7 makes him one of the highest paid safeties already, but just do it.
Also, why do people act like all 3 pass rushers will be gone. While there is a chance, there is also a good chance there isn’t.
I’ve been trying to manifest a trade back with the Rams
Negative. Draft caleb downs is he’s there. Trading back and drafting for need only creates a roster full of mid ass players like the ones we have right now. I don’t give a shit about positional value. You draft BPA. Plus who tf is trading up to 7? For what?
Trade back, get as many picks as AP can.
The Skins need a ground up re build at every position outside of QB and maybe OL.
Time for AP to change strategies and actually draft talent, size and speed vs. always swinging for the fences with a steal of the draft who isn’t a starter by year 2 of a team with old, no speed players.
See Sinot, Newton, Mikey, etc …
Makai Lemon at 7 it is then.
I’ve heard enough, I change my mind pick an edge or line d man
1000000% trade back…deep draft at positions of need
I think they’d be happy to take either of Reese, Bain, or Bailey. If those guys are gone, I definitely expect they’ll try to trade down. I kinda like the first round corners in this class. Would be pretty cool to grab one of those 4-5 guys and pick up a 2nd round pick.
