Kyrie and AD being hurt might’ve been the best thing to happen for Flagg’s development. He’s been thrown into the deep end and is now thriving.
And him playing point guard has helped him improve his handle, allows him to get downhill, play-make, create off the dribble and work on his pull up game.
The kid is becoming a complete basketball player and his growth in such as short time is truly remarkable.
He’s even changed his three point shot mechanics during the season and has become way more efficient from range.
For me he edges the Rookie Of The Year Race but Kon Knueppel is right on his tail.
Here is why Flagg vs Kneuppel might be the most intense rookie of the year race we’ve ever seen

Flagg at PF was going to crush regardless of what position he played at the beginning of the season.
Trial by fire was the way to go.
I’ve seen this being repeated in several places online. I don’t buy it. I think this is just people forcing content out of thin air. If Kidd never made the horrendous mistake by starting Coop at the point, Coop would still look just as good today. People are giving Kidd too much credit for Cooper Flagg’s success.
He’s just starting to feel comfortable. He was a boy among grown men. He was feeling things out. Didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes. Now he’s comfortable and his teammates all know he can play for a youngin. More trust there and everyone knows what’s what now.
OF COURSE it was worth it! It got rid of Nico Harrison!! For the wrong reasons, but Jason Kidd knew what he was doing.
A lot of people was saying it was a stupid idea when he was doing it. Now people see why.
I think forcing him to playmake and put his bb iq to the test was a great start. This guy was a consensus #1 in high school and college and excelled , he needed to learn the hard way in the NBA. We can criticize Kidd and deservedly so , but this was a good way to start Coop’s career off.
Of course it was. This idea that random Redditors know more about player development than the number one PG coming out of HS. Number one PGcoming out of college. Olympics winner, NBA champ, Gianniis, Luka developer.. and the only dude that MJ said he wanted to play with…
I mean it was always ludicrous to not give him the benefit of the doubt… but also it’s very 2026 to think random gym bros have some superior source of logic with absolutely zero applicable experience.
He needs a Luka Doncic type of player to truly flourish
