The gap is widening as the Metro is starting to sort itself into true contenders and not…
January 30, 2026
Pretty cool that on what was supposed to be a down season we’re on the “contender” side of things. Not saying we’re gonna make a deep run or win the Cup this season, but it sure paints a bright future.

cant believe the Canes won last night smh my head
Interesting how while Washington was expected to fall off a bit I don’t think people had them falling to out of a playoff spot. New Jersey keeps having injuries but they should be better than they are. Columbus was also supposed to have been much better and take a step but they haven’t.
Meanwhile we have taken firm control of 3rd in the metro when we were expected to be well out of a spot and Pittsburgh who also were expected to be well out of a playoff spot are second. Interesting stuff
yooooooo, can Pittsburgh chill the fuck out for a second
There’s a long way to go. A 3 game losing/winning streak for anyone can change fortunes quickly.
Remember when we were on ESPN and they said every game was a playoff game in the East because every team was fighting for a playoff spot. The Rangers are not fighting at all lol
Leads are hard to gain and easy to lose, but we do have a little baby lead at this point.
Mmmmmmmm love me a widening gap
I love it
I’ll never sleep on the caps. Somehow they are always around waiting to crush our dreams
I wouldn’t say we have a bright future at all. This is still a mostly old team that’s being carried solely by elite goaltending and doesn’t have a great prospect pool. The chance that we’re better than this next season isn’t great.
It’s really quite amazing how many holes in the roster can be plastered over by Sorokin playing like he is this season. Without him we might not even be good enough to be in the next tier with Washington, New Jersey, Columbus and Philly.
How can Piggsburgh be so good? They’re old and have goalie issues. It’s amazing how lucky they are to keep winning.
Going into the year, would’ve thought an Islanders/Penguins 1st Round series would be looking likely after January?
This is for sure one of the most surprising years for the East in a while:
-Us, Bruins, Penguins, and the Sabres were supposed to be the bottom 4 teams in the conference, and all 4 are solidly in a Playoff spot right now
-Capitals, Devils, Leafs, and Panthers were all supposed to be Playoff locks, and all 4 are decently out of Playoff spot right now
-Canadiens and Red Wings weren’t supposed to be doing this well
-Blue Jackets and Senators were supposed to be taking a step forward
-Rangers weren’t supposed to be this terrible
Really only teams currently doing as expected are the Flyers, Hurricanes, and Lightning. And the Lightning have been doing it despite all of the injuries they’ve had. I wouldn’t be surprised if they win it all this year.
6 points clear is great news. At 10 I may start breathing easier. But we are in a great place.
The Blue Jackets are kind of hot since coaching change.
Not gonna lie, seeing the Penguins in the Top 3 is just as surprising as seeing the Islanders in the Top 3
Yea, but the way hockey is, every team below us has a shot still…..except maybe the rags…..
I wouldn’t count my chickens just yet.
Pittsburgh has to cool off eventually
Just shows how dumb getting a point for a loss is. Should be 6 points ahead of Pit.
