    The clippers were at least contenders in their first years.

    The mavs went straight to lottery and currently tanking after the trade

  3. I remember that night, being excited because it was posted earlier that day that he was expected to return on Tuesday and then the trade happened.

  7. If AD was 25 and didn’t have an injury history, I still wouldn’t have liked the trade but I at least could have understood what they were trying to do. Trading a heliocentric star for an elite two-way big on the same timeline, plus a pick and a young role player with room to develop.

    But doing it for a 32-year-old injury prone AD is the dumbest decision in basketball history

  11. My basketball league had a playoff game and we lost on a buzzer beater in overtime when we were up by 1. I was dejected and then literally 2 minutes later, half the gym runs over to me (cause they know I’m a huge Mavs fan) saying Luka got traded and I was like “that’s not real, shut up.” And then I saw Brad Townsend’s tweet and knew it was real. Literally two giant kicks in the ball back to back.

  16. Honestly the nightmare of that late night tweet still has not ended. I don’t think I’m ever getting over it. Reminder this was the season right after Luka carried the Mavs to the NBA finals

  18. I was on the couch in a haze ready to fall asleep and I got a text from my nephew who said the Mavericks traded Luka. I figured he’s messing with me and then I investigate and my world turned upside down. I didn’t wind up sleeping until after 5:00 a.m. that night. Texting people, reading articles, blasting it everywhere I could. Went to Nico’s Instagram and wound up getting all of my comments removed and silenced. Since then I’ve watched 4 and 1/2 Mavericks games. I’m still done. I was a fan for over 40 years and the biggest proponent of everything Mavericks and Nico killed it. I still can’t support this ownership. I’ll watch some Lakers games for a few minutes and then get depressed. I don’t watch the NBA at all either.

  21. I was on vacation in Tokyo a year ago when I heard this disaster trade, boy it ruined my vacation instantly, Nico must really hated Luka from the bottom of his heart.

  22. I was in the middle of a date with my wife when that happened. I just dropped everything and we went home. Just pure silence on the way home. What a terrible night. I will never forget it.

  23. AD has played 29 games for the Mavericks since the trade. Luka has played 67 for the Lakers.

    Nico used Luka’s health as an excuse to trade him and got back somebody six years older who is on the court for 57% fewer games.

  27. World’s. Worst. Trade. Ever. I stopped watching the NBA that night. Totally rigged. Fuck Nico and fuck the Adelsons. And fuck those that say we should be ok with it because we got Cooper Flagg. It’s not the same. I actually watched some highlights from a game the other day where Luka had a triple double by halftime. He was effortlessly hitting everything. He was throwing these beautiful dimes. Good Lord. He made me love basketball again! Every game was must see. Now, I don’t even care to hear the results.
