Welp, one option off the board
Best Sox news I’ve seen in a while…
Breslow’s thumb is planted firmly up his own ass
There haven’t been any free agency rumors so I assume that the Red Sox weren’t in at all with him.
even after moving hicks, i don’t think they’re looking to add payroll
it’s a shame though, he’s a flawed player of course but they really could’ve used the power bat.
I really don’t like trading away top 10 prospects to clear salary, and then see our top remaining infield free agent option come off the board for cheap.
Crazy that we couldn’t get this done. Seems like a deal Breslow would love.
15 a year is crazy. I would have given him 30×2.
There are plenty of teams besides us that also need a bat and are fully capable of going 1/15. Makes me wonder if there’s something that teams are seeing and the average fan isn’t, that makes it clear he will not repeat his offensive performance.
I assume at this point that they are going to go into spring and try Campbell back at 2b. If he shows dramatic improvement over the end of last season quickly, then that’s awesome. If not, and I don’t think anyone thinks it is likely (just possible) then they will pull the trigger for Donovon or hoerner or someone else not on the public rumor mill radar.
A guy who strikes out constantly is not who the Sox need in their lineup
Cotillo said Sox never made Suarez an offer
Clearly the front office (as well as most of the front offices) didn’t want him.
Cotillo just reported the Sox never made an offer
Wow, that’s only slightly different than Jordan Hicks money
Thank God. I was trying to talk myself into Eugenio in case it’s what happened, but at the end of the day I just don’t want his 200 Ks and .300 OBP. Paredes vs. Suarez is probably the difference of 100 Ks which can be the difference between an offense in the top third of the league for contact rate and an offense in the bottom third.
It’s officially trade or bust.
Oh man I thought this dude was getting way more than that.
Does that mean Sal Stewart might be available to play third?
ok Breslow officially makes me nervous
Cincinnati is definitely not playing him at 3B, given he’s an awful defender and that they have KeBryan Hayes on their roster.
Given what this team has said about prioritizing defense and acquiring high GB pitchers, having him on the roster wouldn’t make any sense.
We were never in on Suarez, with good reason; he’s Dave Kingman 45 years later…
I wouldn’t be surprised if Romero, Arias or Campbell are playing 2B for us next year… Personally? I’d make a deal for Nico Hoerner but only if we could extend him x 4-5 years. He’s a clubhouse leader, a gold glove 2B, always on base and can run.
Mayer did well filling in for Bregman when Bregman was rehabbing his quad (which I think is going to be a problem for him going forward).
We’ll see, but I’m more disgruntled about them trading Sandlin, who had upside, than I am not signing Suarez.
it’s fine to not have wanted eugenio but it is looking unlikley we will get hoerner and at this point it should be very clear if we do not get him this was a failure of an offseason. It’s not to say we didn’t make good moves but our roster construction is abysmal and any success we will experience is completely reliant on 6 players who are either rookies or sophmores. We lost Devers for a rental of alex bregman, failed to retain him and missed out on every major bat in free agency, something the FO said they would get 2 of.
The roster as it is now, will be the roster on May 1 with minimal exceptions.
I’m fine with not signing Suarez but that seems like a zero risk deal.
Man, he’s gonna mash some dingers in Cincy
I want to ask the people that didn’t want him. Are you happy with the current lineup? Because right now I think our lineup is middle of the pack at best. We’re relying on almost every one of the lineup to have the best season they’ve ever had. I understand his defense is horrible, but so was Devers’ and 95% of us would take him back in a heart beat.
We’re hoping a 21 year old can become the MVP already. We hope players like Marcelo, and Wilyer can stay healthy and make a leap forward offensively. Duran took a huge step back and need him to regain his 2024 form. Story needs to repeat last year at minimum or he’s a weak spot in the lineup along with C and whatever position Ceddanne plays. He wasn’t perfect, but at least we know Eugenio would have hit 40+ homeruns and driven in 100. Something we don’t have in the lineup.
I would have liked the 40+ homer potential from someone in this lineup 🤷🏻♂️
