Don't see us letting Paton go but he is potentially wanted in Minny. As far as I can determine he is under contract thru 2026. It seems like he and Payton have a good relationship but it is suggested he might have more power in Minnesota.

  1. The Broncos are working on an extension for Paton right now, im sure part of this is for negotiating power so he can get PAAAAAAAAAID

  2. There’s no way Paton isn’t going to be extended, the owners like him and he and Sean are joined at the hip. The Vikings aren’t going to run an interim GM for a year on the hope Paton doesn’t get extended.

  3. >ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported last month that while Paton would be a “hot” name on the open market, it’s more probable he stays with the Broncos on a new, long-term extension this offseason.

He’ll stay. But I’ll admit I was losing patience with him before Sean Payton arrived and realizing his draft picks need a few years to develop before becoming contributors.

  4. If he survived the Hackett hire and Wilson trade, he isn’t leaving now that the team is winning again.

  6. Ask yourself, would you rather live in Denver or Minneapolis. There’s no comparison.

  7. Let’s see… Stay and enjoy the fruits of your labor in a franchise you’ve had a huge hand in turning around to compete for a super bowl, or make a lateral move to a franchise actively moving in the other direction?

    Decisions, decisions…

  8. I’m sure his name is “circulating” because he’s one of the best GMs in the league. Is a team considering making him the owner? Because that’s the only possible promotion at this point

  9. If he leaves he leaves because he wants more control than he can have in Denver with Sean Payton in the mix. I think that’s the price ownership made him pay for the Hackett (and to a lesser extent Wilson) fiasco as the coach reports to ownership and not the GM.

That’s the thing the Broncos won’t and probably can’t offer. If he’s fine with the status quo I don’t see him leaving but the real currency in those situations quite often isn’t money but control and power.

  10. he was in minny before he came here i’d imagine that’s the connection and i doubt he would leave this situation for the hot sack of garbage they have going over there

  11. Idk, i dont see him spending years building what we have now, as our SB window is just opening, for a lateral move with a lesser ownership group.

Penner also said they wanted Payton and Paton here long term.

  12. If they actually let Paton go I will fucking riot. I doubt it’ll happen though. He is one of the best GMs in the league

  13. Why would any GM want to go to MN? McCarthy looks horrid so far. JJ is looking very disgruntled.

Paton built this team and you would think he would want to continue to improve it.

  14. 2 theories to this it’s either crap that his fellas have put out because his contract runs out fairly soon, or that he was at Minnesota before Denver. Either way. He’ll be staying in Denver.

  15. Paton had one bad move (it WAS a doozy) but he’s also had dozens of fantastic ones too.  We absolutely must keep him.
