Red Wings face an AVALANCHE of goals, as Detroit is shutout against Colorado
The Detroit Red Wings are on their first losing streak since November, as they lost 5-0 to the Avalanche. Like the losing streak in November, their offense has disapated, while they struggle to get it out of their zone. Sheldon Dries signs a new 2-year extension. #LGRW

Beginning of the End?
Hearing a bit sky is falling come on guys we got cossa Danielson MBN still coming. AlJo not looking bad. We are still improving as part of the rebuild its not a light switch. Blowing the entire core on some rental trade is how you become the Rangers
Colorado is freaking good.
Hopefully the Wings come back stronger next game!
going to the game tomorrow, I need some grit & redemption!
Anyone who didn’t think the Avalanche would come in and blow out the Red Wings after they got outscored 12-5 in Ottawa and Montreal Wednesday and Thursday was being delusional.
Forward production has been bad, defense even before Edvinsson loss was on life support. But zero surprises here. The dump and chase has returned, the defense dump out is at an all time high, and it is terribly unsuccessful, with more than 30% never gets out of the zone. I said in December, that this week was going to be the litmus test for the playoff chances, 2 against the hotter than hot Avs, and a hot hot Canes. Simply put, we could be battling for a wild card spot by the end of February. Turnovers are responsible for most of the success of our opponents, and lackluster cleaing attempts will damage us unless there's a change and some depth added by March deadline. People who are dancing on the pink cloud just haven't watched the whole game. They're sure optimistic when the Wings win, but refuse to dissect the game after a loss with the good old "We're doing great!" line. We're not. We're struggling and tonight, and the game against Carolina will prove that we can make it through the season with a comfortable playoff spot or a 10th year sit out.
Having lived through the good old days when the Wings/Avs rivalry was at its best, it makes my stomach sick to say this, but DAMN the Avs are playing good. The wings lost to a team that's been on a heater all year.
Wings got exposed period!
Stevie Y is not going to spend 11 million on a subpar defenseman. He said he will spend money on impact players. Jason Robertson and Werenski are impact players. And Colorado does not impress me at all. They have great shooters and they're big. Detroit is a better team than them. I think they can't say how bad that sickness was going around and through the team because they're going to be sick on Monday as well but you can tell they were just lethargic from being sick.. Larkin is not playing like a first line player. I think everyone should recognize that he's not a top 20 player in the NHL and trading him would probably be the best thing for this team considering what you could get for him.
For how long have the Wings needed a good winger for the top line and a good d-man? For how long have they needed someone that will physically punish the opposition? It isn't rock science and teams can still make a win-win trade.
I say that the wings have improved, but are still not cup contenders. The avs are.
Give the boys in development a couple of years, make a few select trades and we’ll be there. No rush.
The lanche lost 2 straight games before this, of course they were gonna have their a game. The wings didn't have theirs and this is what happens against real good teams like the lanche when you dont have your a game. Plus for those of you crying that this team now suddenly sucks, the lanche just got smoked by teams the wings beat this year, so what does that mean, nothing. They lost to a team that should beat them, they're young, they'll learn, move on.
Brian you're drinking on the job bud😂😂😂, it's not that bad yet.
The battle has begun for WC2 position..
Larkin won’t perform any better than now, he’ll blow the rest of his wad in Italy.
Maybe Compher will become a 1st line scorer and drag the team into playoffs!
They'll fall to eventually fight for a wild card spot, watch..
It’s crazy because with the man advantage we look so good. Crisp and precision. They look so different on 5v5. Like chasing and hoping for a bounce or misplay.
Lite a fire? Under Yzerman? Really? Nothing has changed with him
Just as arrogant as ever.
While other teams are making moves, he signs another AHLer. Just one impact move would surprise the hell out of me.
Wings got their tushies pushed in at home. This team is the lowest tier playoff team. After 7 years of Steve, we may just sneak into the playoffs. It’s quite embarrassing from a once proud franchise.
3 losses in a row at home! That's what's alarming
It’s ’ come back to earth ‘ time. Even when we were winning big —-the issues were always there. There’s a case to be made that the Redwings were overachieving due to the excellent play of a few guys and that it wasn’t sustainable. The 5 v. 5 issues were always there, the bad D zone coverages were always there. The lack of talent in the defensive group, as a whole, was always there. The question is ‘ can they turn this around?’. If they lose-out going into the Olympic break it’s a very bad sign.
With the games in hand other teams have, this is at best a wildcard team. So I wouldn’t expect Yzerman to make moves to help a team that is basically no better than last year’s.
It’s pretty clear to me that this isn’t a playoff roster.
Well we definitely don't look like a cup contender yet
Larkin’s choking a little early this year. Don’t worry he’ll be back when we’re out of a playoff spot.
Brian do you have access to odd man rushes, in your analytics?1-0,2-1,2-0,3-1.Other teams seem to score at will on their chances. We can't complete a pass ,or we take a low percentage shot/miss the net. This has been a recuring theme. Please put on broadcast if stats are available.
If the sense of urgency is not there, then how in hell does this team make the playoffs. If that is the case the players should look within. This team does not have a roster that scares other teams. Not to point a finger at one player because they all share the blame on offense. But where is Larkin? He is a terrific player but may not be the right player for #1 center. If the Wings collapse once again the roster needs to be turned over to a certain degree. Besides Cat, Mo, Raymond , Ed nand probably Axel no other players including Larkin should not be untouchables. Ray L
We need a top line winger to play with Larkin and Raymond, not a prospect!!!!!!! And a top 4 defensive D!!!!!!! Anything else is unexceptsble!!!!!!!!
You have Larks on a line with prospects and first year NHLers. You even took Raymond off his line for awhile. Trade and get him some solid linemates!!!!!!! It isn't ROCKET SCIENCE!!!!
The shit and hate larks gets for coaching decisions, and management is ridiculous…he gets and does his best every time he is on the ice. Work the stats and analytics up your arse!!!!! I'm surprised he hasn't lost his mind, if Stevie screws him again this year, I hope he asks for a trade out!
Brian nailed it in the opening. Our forwards simply do not help out our defense. I will expand on it. Our forwards are not winning board battles and are poor stick handlers. They almost never beat anyone one on one and much of that is due to poor to mediocre puck possession skills. Even our top line can't beat players one on one. When I say this I mean we can't get around defenders. They try and then retreat to the outside looking for a pass. Larkin may be fast, but his stick handling isn't very good most of the time. It's actually been quite bad. The same for Raymond, although nobody ever claimed Raymond to be a speed merchant. Do they occasionally do it, of course. This tends to get exposed vs the good teams. We have some good top line players, but we don't have dynamic top line players. We don't have a McKinnon, McDavid, Celebrini, Pastarnak dynamic skating and puck handling type. It makes scoring very difficult and renders our top line ineffective on many nights. If we are going to make trades, this is where we need to improve. I won't even get into the grit angle as that is a whole other story. This is why the back to back picks of Kaspar and Danielson was such a poor decision by Yzerman and rightly criticized. Neither of these guys have those attributes. Also keep ASP on the PP1 unit to play one of the flanks and see how it goes. He has a hard shot and quick release, something we are lacking.
Keep in mind this is Detroit without edvisson against Colorado. He might not count for 5-0. But it definitely hurts. The game tonight should be closer to what Detroit looks like without edvisson. I’m saying 4-2 Colorado sad face.
Need 2 pieces:
Defenseman
Center
Y will not rent anyone. If he can find term deals within his current payroll structure, he may do something. But don't bet on it.
I love all this team just quits playing.. every year ..It starts Now why wait till March
Jesus man, I feel like I've been some kind of prophet trying to warn this fan base and my sermons have fallen on deaf ears. We've had these issues all season. The way they lost in the home opener to Montreal It's the same exact way they lost so many other games before these last three. Most nights, they have managed to scrounge up winds. Winds thanks to individual performances. Gibson has been a huge part of their success the last 2 months. But they rarely outplay the other team and when they lose, it's ugly. The systems and structure McLellan has tried to instill aren't working. They have so many bad habits. We are doing something wrong if it takes a miracle to get. Dylan Larkin or Lucas Raymond into a position for a shot on goal. Moritz Seider should not have to rim the puck around the boards in desperation for a clear as often as he does. We need to hit guys occasionally. There's so many things they could be doing better.
avalanche of goals.. were coming out firing on all cylinders, eh?
I see these two knuckleheads are deleting comments again.
Locked on red wings needs new blood get someone that don’t wear a stinking predators hat or delete comments they don’t like on their feed.
The Avs are talent laden. Yzerman can now see just how large the deficit in talent is between a mid-level playoff contender and a Cup contender.
When it matters most this team demonstrates an abject lack of urgency.
Post-game, with furrowed brow and bowed heads, to a man they will each drone on in funerealesque tones about how "unacceptable" their performance was, only to repeat that performance and shit the bed once more. Rinse & repeat.
Seen this movie before.
Far too many times.
It's getting old.
There are only four (4) Untouchables on this team:
Two (2) wingers and two (2) defencemen. We all know their names…..
