  1. Only fitting that one of, if not the most iconic home run of all time is immortalized

  2. Weird to have a statue built for a player who doesn’t have their number retired unless they’re planning on doing that too.

  3. Canada Day 2018, I was heading to breakfast downtown before the afternoon Jays game. I was wearing my Joe Carter jersey and someone was starting to set up a few tents for an event in the old Loose Moose parking lot. He saw my jersey and told me that Carter would be here signing autographs later.

Came back later and got in line. Nobody knew about this signing because there were 6 other people ahead of me. Across the street, you can see hundreds of Jays fans walking to the game, oblivious that Carter was 50 feet away and signing autographs at a free event.

Since it wasn’t that busy, he spent more time with everyone and was just one of the friendliest guys. Had him sign my jersey (that is now in a jersey case) and he signed a few of the baseball cards they had to giveaway. One of my favourite interactions with anyone that gave me one of my favorite signed pieces. I will definitely be there to see that statue unveil to support that man.

    Fan for life.

    Edit. Signed jersey

  4. Every ballpark needs at least one statue. And I say this as a fan of a team that has so many we’re approaching statue garden territory.

  5. Maybe they’ll finally remove the Ted Rogers statue and put this in its place.

  6. My mom gave me and pa shit for screaming the way we did when that happened. She was certain our little Italian landlady was going to kick us out of the apartment.

  7. Question for Blue Jays fans – if the team decides to go all out on statues to honor players and commemorate events, what would you want to see?

  8. I would be curious: who is the player statue memorializing the lowest WAR / lowest OPS+?

  9. To pay for the statue, Rogers has increased cell phone bills by 15% across the board. Some of you may not be able to afford it, but it’s a sacrifice we’re willing to make. #CommunityDriven

  10. “Everybody remembers where they were…”

I sure as hell do! I was 11 years old and I was sitting in my room with the door shut, pouting because the Jays coughed up the lead in the 7th. My friends who I invited over to watch the game celebrated the HR with my parents. What a proud moment from my childhood!

  11. I hope it’s the moment of him being carried around by his teammates but it will probably be jumping joe rounding first

  12. Finally! ‘Slightly’ overdue, but glad it’s finally happening. Single greatest moment of my childhood!

  13. To make enough of an impact on a a city that you didn’t play your entire career for and your numbers say hall of very good overall, that is awesome. This kind of surprises me. Even more surprising that there’s not one for Roy Halladay, who is in the Hall but did not win won with Toronto
