  1. How disappointing we are talking Giolito now. Typical O's. Rubenstein falling short of expectations. It was front end starter or bust. We traded for Baz and resigned Efflin. 3rd to 4th place as you are not better than Toronto or NY.

  2. Giolito is injury prone! I wouldn't touch Giolito or Valdez with a 10ft pole. If they can't make the trade for Ryan and Cole than, I'd Trade for Alcantara and Sign Gallon!

  3. Unless a SP is here by ST I'm good, Verlander could come in late since he's a huge vet. But I'm fine with 2 aces we have if Framber isn't going to sigh until mid-Feb, March.

  4. There are definitely some good reasons not to give Framber Valdez what he seems to be asking for, and next year's pitcher FA crop looks much better.

To me, any quality starter with a record like Gio Gonzalez could help us a lot and would be another good addition.

  5. Why are we letting Elias off the hook for not getting a 1 or 2 this year either as a FA or trade? Giolito stinks and is like a number 5 or 6 starter. If this team doesn’t find a top of the line starter they will finish no better than 3rd or 4th in the division. Let’s not sugar coat this with talks of these low end starters…….. they are low end at best…… not game changers…..

  6. My take: Framber and his agent want the 5+ year mega deal. The Orioles don't want that. No one wants that.

Which is why one of the best free agent starters is still available. His agent is playing hard ball to get someone to cave. The Orioles, because of fan pressure? The Mets for the same reason and the have Monopoly money? Giants? Who knows who they think they can dupe?

In the meantime, Elias wants a shorter deal I have to believe. He is willing to give max AAV, right?. Willing to give an opt out. (ignore the sheeple who just keep saying the O's are too cheap to sign a front line starter).

    It's a stale mate.

We hear nothing about the O's and Framber. We never hear anything about Elias and the deals he makes before he makes them. So maybe that is encouraging. And that's why names like Verlander and Giolito make me skeptical.

So why are we hearing them? I suspect Elias is trying to create leverage. He is sweating out the agent. Is the agent willing to lose the Orioles if they go another route?

Framber is represented by Octagon, and the seem to like flashy, super long-term deals. They did the Bobby Witt Jr. 11-year, $288 million extension with the Royals and Julio Rodríguez's 12-year, $209 million extension with the Mariners.

But those dudes are not pitchers. And they ain't 32.
