To be fair, he spent a long chunk of career in Nashville.
Does not sparkle, bad deals for old-and-slows not withstanding.
His quotes do not age well.
Good coaches don’t always make good GMs, good guy, just need a fresh start modern mind
You can’t fault a guy who’s given a big chunk of his life to the Preds for wanting to step back and spend time with his family. Barry Trotz may not have been the best GM, but he’s by far not the worst either. His love of the Preds can never be questioned. They’ll raise his name into the rafters in the near future.
Give him a break. There’s probably family stuff with his kid.
Rebuild incoming
Barry Trotz will always be a legend in my mind. When I was 7, it was the Preds’ 2nd year in Nashville. I took a stick to the face playing Street hockey with older kids and had to go to the ER and get stitches.
We ran into Barry Trotz at the Kroger off of Edmondson Pike the very next day. He asked my dad what happened, and once he found out it was hockey related. He got us tickets for the next day. We had tickets that were center ice, fifth row. He recognized me during warm ups and had a player flip me a puck. He also sent me a handwritten letter with an autograph picture a week later, Telling me to keep pulling for the team and keep playing hockey.
Regardless of how this ended. He’s the primary reason that I’m still a fan 25 years later. It sucks to end like this with somebody who is such a good guy!
