He had another goal and assist yesterday night. I would also point out that he'd have more points (especially short handed), but they've been disallowed due to offsides or "goalie interference" (Dallas game I'm talking about you).

He's genuinely one of my favorite Ducks and is seriously underrated. Great on the PK and fast skater! I'd love to see him get more 3 on 3 shifts.

  1. Zegras is a better player than Poehling. What will determine the winner of this trade is if either of the two players extend with their current team and Eric Nilson.

  2. I don’t think either team won, we just both benefitted. Zegras likely wouldn’t have had this kind of production with us, and we got a two-way forward in Poehling which we desperately need.

  3. Poehling has been amazing for our bottom 6 but these are 2 different players. No way we could afford what zegras is going to get and pay our RFAs. Now we won the cutter trade by about 1000 miles.

  4. We didn’t. I firmly believe zegras should have been moved. I also like poehling. But that was not a good trade.

  5. I don’t know if win is how I would put it. We all knew what Zegras could be but on paper he hardly showed it. Poehling and a first would feel more even but a second and a fourth don’t feel as great.

  6. I’m curious to see how Zegras looks next year, when he’s not playing for a contract.

  7. Cmon man, Zegras has regained everything he was under Eakins and more. Hes one of like 2-3 flyers forwards playing well.

Poehling is fine. Hes a serviceable bottom 6er that can skate and play center. But lets not pretend like his recent point streak isnt being driven by Cutter and empty nets.

If you wanna say the trade made the team fit better i would still hate it, but understand it. In no world though was this equal value

  8. I still don’t like how we handled Zegras but man Poehling has been so good. He definitely had a slow start to the year but you can tell he’s well liked and is really playing well in his role. Stepped up big lately with the injuries too. One of my favorite players for sure.

  9. There was a reason he was out to take the faceoffs at the end of the game. He didn’t win them all but looked good in the circle and capped the game with the empty net. Great 2 way player.

  10. I truly think that both trades we made with Philly need to be looked at together.

Between the Z and Cutter trades:

-Anaheim gets: Cutter Gauthier, Ryan Poehling, 2025 2nd round pick (45th overall, Eric Nilson) and a 2026 4th round pick.

-Philadelphia gets: Trevor Zegras, Jamie Drysdale, 2025 2nd round pick (40th overall, Jack Murtagh)

Nilson has 3 g, 6 a, 9 points in 24 games for Michigan State, as well as 33 PIM to go with a +5 rating.

Murtagh has 3 g, 3 a, 6 points in 25 games for Boston University, as well as 19 PIM and a -7 rating.

We had a logjam on D, and got a great defensive forward to make room for our other guys. We swapped 5 spots in the 2nd round and picked up a 4th for next year (which could go to the Bruins from the Viel trade), and then Z for Cutter. That seems like a pretty good trade where both sides come out happy.

  11. I think a big stat that we are missing is faceoffs. Poehling has about 600 faceoffs with a 47%. While zegras has 185 faceoffs with a 35%. Love both of them, and I miss the creativity of zegras, but the team is heading toward a good direction.

  12. So….. I don’t think we can think of this trade as a win, but Poehling sure has a home here in Anaheim. He’s amazing for us

  13. We can love Poehling and also acknowledge the trade stunk.

    Hopefully Poehling gets extended soon.

  14. I think it paid off for both teams. I still miss having him on the team but at least he didnt need a new jersey /s

  15. Im not at the point of saying we won, but its not as big a loss as I thought a few months ago

  16. Extend Poehling! Very quick and great at penalty killing and powerplays, he has definetly helped the team stay afloat during this new defensive style. Zegres was a godd player but he seemd like a dick tbh, heard lots of things about him and some fans, gets ito stupid fights now etc.

  17. The issue with Zegras was he needed a change of scenery, and we needed a different type of player that Zegras couldn’t be. Like full stop. If there was a better return to be had, I’m sure Verbeek would have taken it, but I think our fan base, like most fan bases, vastly overrate our guys, and don’t understand trade values, especially when it comes to draft picks.

Poehling is great for what he is, and I’m really hoping he’s here for a while. He’s a mix of Cogliano and Vermette which is a nice thing to have. He’s not as offensively gifted as Zegras, but he does a lot of things that Zegras, and the rest of our team, doesn’t.

  18. Love Zegras so take my comment with a grain of salt but if GMPV doesn’t extend Poehls this trade is a disaster unless the draft picks become something big.

With that said, I firmly believe Poehling will end up getting Strome’s $$$ when he is inevitably moved.
