  1. What do you really do in this situation?? The Hawks are in the mix and a solid run or win streak away from realistically capturing a wildcard spot – and you know the kids want it bad and are ready for it, and moving veteran guys now would be "tossing in the towel" on the season and the implications made by that (whether the kids understand or not) would/could send the wrong message and damage their confidence in the franchise moving forward..Tossing in the towel now would be indirectly telling the kids management doesn't believe they're good enough – and obviously you don't want that.. Not to mention chasing a playoff spot down the stretch at this point in the rebuild would teach these kids a ton and give them invaluable experience and the confidence they're going to need to make future runs..

So I'm really conflicted here, and I'm sure Davidson is as well… One thing is certain – the Hawks are loaded with young talent so it's not like the Hawks need the assets that would come back in trades – but if a GM offers you a 1st round pick or a 2nd round pick and a decent prospect for Connor Murphy (or any pending UFA) you'd have to be tempted to make the trade and explain to the kids – "next season"…

I will say, I hope the Hawks hold on to Michayev. Obviously they can re-sign any of these pending UFA's again on July 1st, but I think Michayev is a really good fit for this team moving forward, so if Davidson can get him extended for a couple more years at a reasonable amount that would be ideal – especially when you look at these future UFA classes – not good.. I'd say bring back Foligno as well because this team does need veteran leaders – every team needs those guys – and he seems to be that veteran presence in the locker room a young team needs to hold things down on and off ice.. But at the same time I understand there are only a handful of roster spots available and competition will be fierce at training camp with all of the young talent this team has so keeping Foligno around may hold a couple of kids back – kids who would have otherwise made the team and that's something you try to avoid when you're in the process of a rebuild – even if it's late-stage…

  2. Jason Robertson?? If I were Davidson I'd be prepared to give up the Hawks 1st round pick, Florida's 1st round pick + Korchinski for Robertson. Would it be overpay? perhaps, it could be a 1st, two 2nds and Korchinski? but I'd certainly give up a 1st + Korchinski + for Robertson… Keep in mind the Hawks are loaded with prospects already, and there are only a certain amount of roster spots on this team (not to mention contract slots) so Davidson and the coaching staff are going to have to make some difficult roster decisions in the next couple of years and drafting more talent will just make those decisions more difficult.. So moving a couple of high picks and a prospect like Korchinski for a young core player like Jason Robertson SHOULD BE on Davidson's off-season agenda… The Hawks are at that point in the rebuild where they SHOULD BE trying to acquire a young core piece like they did when they signed Hossa…. Another guy I'd like to see Davidson target who is being shopped is Elias Petterson – either way – I'd expect Davidson to make a BIG MOVE between now and the start of next season – it will likely be at the draft – but it's about that time in the rebuild to start shaping this team for the long run and they're a year or two away and player or two away from being a legit contender..
