Olympic Break Can’t Come SOON ENOUGH for FADING San Jose Sharks Team

San Jose Sharks stumble in a must-win game, falling 6-3 to the Chicago Blackhawks as fatigue and a grueling road trip take their toll. Is exhaustion derailing the Sharks’ playoff hopes just before the Olympic break? Will Smith pushes toward the 30-goal mark with another strong performance, while Macklin Celebrini hits an impressive 80-point milestone well ahead of schedule.

JD Young analyzes the Sharks’ sluggish start, raising questions about Ryan Warsofsky’s strategy and the effectiveness of special teams compared to Chicago’s aggressive penalty kill. Key topics include William Eklund’s high-effort shifts, Michael Misa’s flashes of brilliance, and defensive struggles from Dmitry Orlov and Timothy Liljegren. Roster moves loom with Sherwood’s expected activation and the upcoming league roster freeze. Can the Sharks regroup in time to face the Colorado Avalanche, or is this losing skid a sign of deeper issues?

  1. The Rangers game really did distort the general view of this road trip cause damn that’s a long time to not have consecutive games in the same barn

  2. Let’s get a RHD with our first 1st round and klepov with our second 1st round pick. lol but him on the line with Misa and Cherny, call it the spirit line. 😂 really we probably need to grab two defenseman in the first round if possible.

  3. We need consistency and that starts with the coach. You don’t have to change things up every game.

We need to figure out which UFA are extend and which are trade.

The difference in the standing between WC2 and 7th from the bottom isn’t much. We need that top 10 pick.

  4. This game was so embarrassing to attend as a Sharks fan. The defense was a complete joke tonight, once again, penalties killed us, and we need to do a better job at winning Faceoffs when they actually matter. I'm sick of hearing these Panarin rumors, we'd be sacrificing WAY to much for a winger who won't be relevant in a year or two.

  5. The Sherwood's injury management has been too suspicious too. I thought we gonna see his Sharks debut vs Edmonton, but he also was inactive for Calgary and Hawks game which im starting to be concerned

  6. The elephant in the room is Askarov
Edit: also Warsofsky does need to be held accountable. My disdain for the dude goes back to when he was hired. So I've always not been a fan and that won't change. I was definitely on the Marco Sturm wagon, oh well.

  7. Forget the Playoffs, this team can't even generate any chances on goal. That 1st period was a joke. Sharks should do themselves a favor and not rush this rebuild! This team still needs a whole lot

  8. The team lacks a true top pair on defense. Orlov is ok, but not a top liner on good teams. There is just too many average to poor players on the team.

  9. No excuses they need defensive help!!!!!! Askarov is not the problem. Stop looking for wingers and centers and get us a solid defenseman. I trust Grier to get it done. No matter what this is a been a good season so far. Way better than the last 4 years. Sharks4Life & I Bleed TEAL!!!!

  10. Our top lines in the last few games were both broken up.

    Graf – Celebrini – Smith
    Eklund – Misa – Gaudette

In the case of Misa's line (our best in the previous two games prior to the Chicago game) all three players were moved.
Eklund/Wennberg do good defense, but haven't ever done even moderate levels of production; it is a great checking line but not a 2nd line threat.
Gaudette got moved to the 4th line with Goodrow and Reaves, which also doesn't work.
Misa did okay with Regenda and Kurashev, but why break up our top line of the previous two games?

Toffoli has been a step slower this season.
He's decent as a middle six on either the 2nd or 3rd line.
He hasn't produced enough to be on the top line.

Personally, I'd have kept Chernyshov in the NHL, and chosen to expose a lesser forward to Waivers.
We could have still moved him down, just prior to the Olympic break so he gets lots of minutes in the AHL, then called him up right after we return.

    Chernyshov – Celebrini – Smith
    Eklund – Misa – Gaudette
    Graf – Wennberg – Toffoli
    Sherwood – Ostapchuk – Cardwell

  11. Best thing these homeboys can do now is relax, not over-think it. Don't try to figure it out the slump will just continue. Go out on the town, get outside of hockey for a bit of time, get out of your norm. Go back to practice and be loose, don't worry about it, pretend you've been in the league years and years, this too shall pass and it shall do so much sooner if these kids don't take it too seriously. It happens, they're still on the up, and there's still plenty of time. No need to press.
