DEAL OR NO DEAL: Rhys Hoskins The Washington Nationals & Other Notable Free Agents
Washington Nationals face a pivotal offseason—will bold moves accelerate their rebuild, or is a tough year ahead? Ryan Clary examines the merits of targeting free agents Rhys Hoskins and Paul Goldschmidt to fill Washington’s first base void and inject much-needed veteran leadership. Max Scherzer’s emotional return is debated, but does nostalgia outweigh on-field realities for this Nats icon? Key topics include the Nationals’ outfield future with rising stars James Wood, Dylan Crews, and Daylen Lile, as well as infield uncertainties and a thin starting pitching staff. Are the 2026 Nationals destined for growing pains, or do secret weapons like newly acquired reliever Richard Lovelady hint at brighter days ahead? Hear Ryan Clary break down recent roster moves, trade rumors, and what Washington fans should expect as the team weighs short-term pain against long-term contention in a retooling National League East.

This team is an unwatchable mess
The Scherzer discussion doesn’t matter, he won’t sign with the Nats regardless of what the Nats want.
The white Sox are signing players why can’t the Nats do the same. There’s still a lot of good players on the market. 1 veteran starter that can anchor this young staff, 1 or 2 veteran relief pitchers, Hoskins would be good and andujar would be nice too.
hope Hassel III doesnt do a pre-season swol Robles
this "Team" is a Wreck
Trade Jacob Young to the O’s for Ryan Mountcastle. You could get Mountie for 2 yrs because he has an option. If he stinks, you can cut him loose.
I genuinely think the most frustrating thing is the learners are a top 5 richest owner yet act like they are a bottom 5. Mark learner is a disgrace. I don’t expect you to go sign Bregman or Pete Alonso but what I do expect you to do is spend a little money to grab a few decent bullpen arms and maybe a veteran starter for a year or 2. Nothing but waiver claims (not toboni fault that the previous front office did nothing good for this team)
