Drunken roller coaster
watching Eli take all those hits… cemented him as one of the toughest dudes I ever seen play the position. He got battered.
all. all emotions were experienced.
I was there. Driving rain. Howling wind. Hostile atmosphere. Shitty but actually amazing Candlestick Park. No live sporting event will ever top it for me.
I was showing my son, who’s 7, the Giants Superbowl run that year. First thing he said was, so we were good?? lol
I remember just being amazed at the beating Eli took, yet never wavering.
Oddly confident. Never doubted we were going to the Super Bowl.
I wanted to blast my face with a shotgun after those two long Vernon Davis touchdowns
That Niners team still scares me.
I felt like I was watching a Rocky movie. One of the good ones, like I or III. Eli just took a beating and kept us in it, carried us to the win. It was awesome. I consider it his best game.
I saw a quarterback get this shit kicked out of him. Basically every other drop back.
Then I saw him with one eye closed on the ground calling a time out. And I knew I saw that look before.
And I knew that the game was going to come down to not the team that made the play, but the team that made the mistake.
And that was Frisco twice
My soul left my body when Kyle Williams fumbled the second time
I just had unlimited faith in Eli the whole time.
man, we had such a good time back then. I live in die hard eagles country and those were the best years, i was in high school talking so much shit! lol
stressful
Terror. Until that final fumble I was petrified.
Easy list:
1. We call it the 2011 NFCCG (not 2012)
2. Eli is GOAT
3. Eli should be a HoF if he runs the tables again
4. Eli
5. Kyle Williams
I had a strange confidence/arrogance they were going all the way that year after embarrassing the Packers. Maybe it was my early 20’s.
Mostly anxiety/stress, more stress than the superbowl for sure for some reason
There’s a dent in the bedrock shaped like Eli and in a million years it’ll still be there
My buddy and I flew out to SF for this game. We were 20 and decided that we had to witness this SB run in person. We basically spent all of our part time job $ on flights and tickets. We rented a car and slept in it. Found other Giants fans to tailgate with.
It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Hostile crowd, insane wind and rain and I was absolutely captivated by Eli that night. There were so many times when he got hit and I said there’s no way he gets up, and I wouldn’t fault him. He got his ass kicked. This game cemented his legacy imo. Tough as nails, showed up when it mattered, wasn’t scared of anyone.
I was at this game and it was batshit crazy.
I was on study abroad in London and watched the game from a bar with mostly American ex-pats. We called dozens of bars/pubs and could only find one that guaranteed to stay open for the whole game.
Many Giants fans. Many football fans of other teams. It was agonizing with the 11:30 p.m. start time compounding all the anxiety. But when it was over it was really cool to walk the empty streets of London as a comedown.
Never a doubt we were going to win that game. That was easily the best game Eli had ever played in his career.
Hell of a lot better than my emotions with the last 15 years of this abomination
Obviously Manning’s toughness is what stands out, but I honestly never felt like we were going to lose against either the Niners or the Patriots even though both were extremely tight games. After we beat the Packers it felt like our year.
Unbelievable
The most nerve-racking game in any sport I probably ever watch
Holy shit Eli is one tough son of a bitch. Regulation ended i was like this is our game.
I still can’t believe how our O-line was able to on any play give Eli time to throw. That was one of the all time worst o-lines in the playoffs against an all time best defensive front.
At of all the playoffs games in 07 and 11 if was the one where my confidence wavered most. What a gutsy game Eli had
this is the game I tell whoever argues that he’s not a HOF, to go watch. This man takes an absolute beating. Stays in the pocket long enough to make ridiculous pass and catches without having anytime to protect himself, just takes the hits. No one talks about that 3rd and long touchdown pass to Mario manningham, where if incomeplete, we definitely lose this game. And the fact that this man never missed a game due to injury is the most impressive thing of all. This man won 2 superbowls against the elite tom Brady, had virtually unparalleled playoff stats, and NEVER MISSED A GAME until mcadoodoo came to town. He also never, ever, threw a teammate under the bus. Always accepted responsibility, and never let the noise get to him. I wish all athletes used Eli as an example on how to be an S tier teammate. Get this man into the hall, he fucking deserves it.
Eli was one tough SOB.
I cried at the end. The full spectrum was felt.
I said out loud to my family, “how many more chances do you get?” After the 2nd punt in OT and then the fumble happened. Eli played a hof worthy game but that’s my first thought when I see him ragdolled.
I was convinced they were gonna lose the entire time and was at peace with it. They were honestly vastly outplayed and were gifted a touchdown and then OT winner cause of dipshit Kyle Williams.
I saw Eli get absolutely hammered this game more than he ever had before and was worried about him.
After the game I felt pure bliss. The entire playoffs was house money and surviving this game was a testament to the grit they’ve always had
Also, forgot to mention in my previous comment. Huge shoutout to the receiving corps, especially Cruz. An absolute dawg
The greatest gam of Eli’s career.
I forget but it was much like our other NFC Championship games against them
Thoughts watching the game.
“Jesus, Eli is getting the shit kicked out of him.”
“Looks like the weather is giving both teams an issue.”
“WOW, that actually hit the knee? What good fortune!”
“Jesus, the 49ers are hitting Eli like he owes them money.”
“And we’re going into overtime with the new rules.”
“They got another fumble from the punt!? Please don’t miss the kick, please don’t miss the kick…”
“Super Bowl bound, baby! And another chance to embarrass the Patriots once more!”
I thought the score was too close for the ass-whoopin’ the Giants defense put on them. Despite Manning also taking a beating I thought they were moving the ball well. Didn’t the 49ers have 2 3rd conversations in that game?
I thought it would be a shame to lose that game.
And I had no nails left!
Eli manning is elite
I remember thinking with about 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter, “This is going to come down to special teams.” When Kyle Williams ran forward and I saw the ball half a yard behind him, I pointed at the TV and screamed like Roy Scheider at the end of Jaws.
