Orioles acquire infielder Bryan Ramos from the White Sox

The Baltimore Orioles have added another utility infield option in trading for Bryan Ramos from the Chicago White Sox. Host Connor Newcomb gives you the scouting report on Ramos and discusses what the Orioles might do with the last spot on their roster. Will it be for Jeremiah Jackson or could they keep both Coby Mayo and Ryan Mountcastle?

  1. Man, I love it. I don't expect to see him with the big club until September, but perhaps next season. I'd love it if they played him in as many positions 3 thru 9 as possible at AAA next season.

  2. The only way I see this Orioles offseason as a failure is if they wind up with Mayo, Mountcastle and Alonso all on the opening day Roster, or possibly the same situation where they send Mayo back to AAA. They have to find a taker for one of these guys and maxamize their value. And I think O's fans are tired of the "Infielders in the Outfield routine."

  3. The orioles still stuck in their ways. Hey Connor, as this team is currently constructed and if they don’t sign a frontline starter, what place would you put them in the division? Keep it real.

  4. I can't see it breaking camp BUT I am expecting Payton Eels to end up taking the utility spot at some point. He's the guy whose physical profile is uncharacteristic, but his character is off the charts. I just think he wants it bad enough he's going to make it happen. Oh, he can play baseball as well. For all the categories grading a utility player, it's their defensive versatility that is tops, followed by OBP (power is irrelevant), then speed. That is why I see Eels taking and keeping the job for some time.

  5. I agree with the idea that the can survive without a UT player for the first 2 months, but will need to start spelling guys and covering short IL stints across the roster in June

  6. Honestly I don't see why we need a 5th outfielder on the bench. Yes at some point one of our outfielders will be on IR, but then we can bring up an outfielder to spell them. I think having a utility guy is way more important and if something bizarre happens late in a game you could still throw the guy in the outfield if there are literally no other players available.
