This offseason, every time the Pirates have signed or traded for a player it has come without any smoke. Anytime there is smoke, they go somewhere else. People really gotta see this pattern for what it is.

It seems like their limits in true free agency are about where they were 10 years ago, right? O’Hearn’s 2/29 isn’t much different than Russell Martin’s 2/17 back in the day. If they’re still using the same risk analysis, about the highest they would go for a pitcher would be about 3/55.
To be honest, I wouldn’t want them to pay that much for Valdez. I don’t mind the smoke without fire this time.
