Tigers sign Skubal’s replacement?

  1. there is no replacement for skubal – they want to compete during skubal’s last year in detroit

  2. I’m happy the Mets didn’t sign Valdez, but at the same time I’m shocked at the deal he got.

I’m lowkey hoping for the Mets to bring in Zac Gallen, and I figured that domino would fall once Valdez took the inevitable 1+1 deal. 3/$115m is very surprising.

  3. Tigers taking ONE BIG SHOT at it, while also replacing him. But wow, Framber doesn’t get signed til the last week and then gets a 40 mil bag? Good for him.

  4. $38-39 million is a lot for him IMO. He might be the best groundball pitcher in the game but he didn’t look amazing in the second half of last year.

  5. Probably means they expect they’re winning the arb hearing so they’re building around Skubal

  6. Seems like a lot of money if you offered your better pitcher $19 and are set to go to arbitration with him over it.

  7. That’s good signing by the Tigers to pair with Skubal and have a replacement for him next year

  8. kind of crazy that the Tigers are in an arbitration battle with Skrubal who won the cy young twice in a row, yet that are going to now pay Valdez more money per year than Skrubal is even asking for.

I feel like the arbitrator should be able to take this deal into consideration now, making Skrubal even more vindicated in the salary he’s asking for.

  9. They’re going for it in their final year with him. Either they’re contending or they’re not contending, Skubal won’t be traded

  10. I imagine the tigers think their arbitration hearing went well? 38 million for Framber Valdez seems super high.

  11. Going for it in their last year with him. Signals there won’t be an extension. But man… Skubal is going to get an absolute king’s ransom yeeewww

  12. “highest AAV ever for a left-handed pitcher”

On the same day that they went to arbitration with their LHP ace…

  13. Thank God, did not want Valdez on this team. Don’t need that energy in the clubhouse.

    Also, that’s a ridiculous overpay.
