He is right about lots of QBs taking hits that never gets talked about

Jaxson Dart Says he Will be Smarter Situationally but Defends Playstyle and Addresses Narrative Surrounding It

  1. Dude is a baller. He isn’t small either. I don’t think you’re gonna see this guy miss games like Jayden Daniels, whose frame has gotten him into a lot of trouble over the last year.

  2. Being smarter situationally is all he has to do

If you’re a mobile QB there will *always* be a risk of taking a hit

All he has to do is simple shit like scamper out of bounds on a line and not try to take defenders on in the open field, which I think he already showed growth with at the end of last year

I personally think he needs just a designed run or two per game and that’s it, the rest will come from natural breakdowns/scrambles

  3. Yeah it’s crickets from the media when Allen or McCarthy make even more reckless plays than what Dart has done

  4. EXACTLY. I don’t see people saying Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson are CTE bound. Even Trevor Lawrence, when he took a BIGGG hit against the Texans last year, nobody was saying he was gonna be wheelchair bound and that hit looks worse than any hit Dart has ever taken.

The narrative was pushed by the media, and to casuals who don’t watch Giants games, they’ll just regurgitate these stupid takes without even looking into it. That’s why on the main NFL Sub, every time someone talks about Dart being CTE bound they can only point out these same takes/sentences:

“Dart needs to change his playstyle, he won’t be playing for long if he keeps taking big hits”

“Dart is bound to get CTE”

“Him and Skatt are the CTE bros”

“Dart is good but he really needs to be safer”

  5. It’s the most ridiculous narrative in a long time in NFL reporting. You have complete dumbasses like Stephen A. Smith going on nation television talking about how he had FIVE concussions and then you get people just repeating that bullshit left and right. How did he go in the tent five times and only have one concussion? The league operates on a 80% success rate with identifying concussions? That means for every 10 trips to the blue tent for an apparent concussion 8 players actually had one. Dart had one 20% of his trips to the blue tent. That’s such a drastic difference vs the league average it should honestly be investigated.

  6. I know that Dart has to be smarter with the hits that he takes, but it’s weird how Baker Mayfield gets praised for playing in a very similarly aggressive manner.

  7. Thing is, I feel like we have an in-house expert–a former high-level QB who won a couple of championships while famously avoiding taking big hits and only missed a handful of games over his long career due to injury–who could perhaps teach Dart a thing or two about how to avoid dangerous hits….has anyone reached out to him about that possibility? :0

  8. The league babied him last year and I don’t get why. Had to go to concussion protocol 5 times in 10 games and only got concussed once. It doesn’t make sense.

  9. That’s my dawg but the hit he took in the Pats game scared me ngl. Remember Jaxson the best ability is availability.

  10. Sports media really took this narrative and ran and I think it’s because they didn’t have any good storylines coming out of NY. If we were winning and having a Patriots like comeback season, they would have been talking about how great Dart is. But because the team was hot garbage and he took a few big hits, they were like “here is our story…. look at this reckless rookie”.

We who actually watch Giants football all saw that Dart has already started to play safer, this is a learning curve, the NFL isn’t college and he has to take those “welcome to the NFL moments”, most rookies do. But this narrative that he’s not going to finish out his rookie contract is absurd, dude came out of college without any serious injury history.

  11. He’s definitely got that “dawg” in him and he shouldn’t change in that regard. Hope that his prior negative experiences have learning lessons (i.e., from Pats game, rather than going shoulder-to-shoulder with Christian Elliss, dive at HIS legs, and from Chicago game, OK to slide once you’re past that first down marker). Like Gruden said, not being judicious with the “+2” attitude will just make you more injury prone in the NFL.

  12. I’m confident in him. He’s absolutely right about the narrative, the game casters and media really kept talking as if he had multiple concussions and the more they spoke about it the more the narrative grew. I’ll be excited to see him light up the field this upcoming season in response.

  13. In all honesty id rather have to coach this out of a guy than have to coach a guy to play more fiery. One is much much easier to accomplish than the other

  14. This is his blind spot. He seems to have chip about this issue, often getting defensive. Seeing Eli say “he lied to me” on manningcast told me a lot. Seeing Peyton’s reaction to the hit did the same. He still doesn’t get that he’s playing QB, not RB.
It has nothing to do with his toughness or being able to take the hit. It’s about the fact that the average RB career doesn’t last past the first contract for a reason. And he’s meant to last 10 plus years. If it’s the playoffs I get it, but regular season games, don’t think a hit for 1 extra yard. It adds up.

  15. 17/18 game seasons make it almost impossible to stay healthy for a season. 2 pre-season games is not enough to get your starters ramped up while getting long looks at younger players and those on the bubble. Wouldn’t be surprised if teams out front start using the first 3-4 games as extended preseason. Meaning some backups, including QB play the 1st half?

  16. I agree 110% with him. Even in the playoffs this year I saw QBs taking big hits. This is part of the game. This narrative is just st*pid and aims almost exclusively at Dart. Of course he needs to be smarter about protecting himself here and there. But I think he improved in this regard as the season went on

  17. he is so good at navigating the media, its really impressive for such a young person in such a huge spotlight

  18. I think the thing he needs to really focus on is getting rid of the ball. I can think of a handful of times where he was trying to extend the play and took unnecessary sacks.

  19. So I’m seeing a lot of comments comparing Lamar and Dart as running QBs and honestly the two styles aren’t even comparable. Darts best comparison is actually Patrick Mahomes. They both have similar size, heigh, frame and weight. We should pray that Dart’s career trajectory as a runner should mirror that of PM.

Mahomes has great mobility and ability to extend plays and does a really good job of minimizing hits taken. It’s really hard to compare Dart to this generations GOAT talent but Mahomes also gets a lot of favorable calls from the refs and obviously one can hope that Dart gets that level of favorable calls in the future.
