  1. Matt, I was wondering how many players we need to change if we go 3-4, then I remembered we have to change most of the defense anyway. If we do this then Reese should be the pick, but we definitely need a playmaker in the middle of the defense. Styles would be ideal, but he ain't lasting till sixteen.

  2. Jermaine rushes standing up plenty doesn't he? I for sure have seen him do it more often than WMD does – that's probably why I remember, cuz I thought it was odd that the bigger edge is the one that likes to rush standing up while the guy that does look like an OLB is exclusively a hand in the dirt guy. I actually think it'll work well for him

  3. Karl coming back to coach for us, regardless of what our base is going to be, has me super excited. Because I KNOW he's very good at what he does. I admired his work with Sheldon and Muhammad. And I know that he's actually an OLB, but I'm sure he had an impact on TJ Watt too.

  4. I kind of feel like our current core on D ( if we want to call it a core) better suits a 3-4. Get Banks in draft. There are plenty of edges. (I do feel as though JJ could be heading to TN) A lot of guesses as we have no idea if they even have a plan. Need FA & Draft. The one thing the Jets org has done well is not released info on much of anything

  5. This is so overblown
    This is not the 70s
Regardless of whether a team runs a 3-4 or 4-3 base scheme, the reality is they’re operating in nickel or dime packages the vast majority of the time. I’m not an analytics guy, but I’m willing to wager teams play one of those sub packages at least 70% of the time….so the thought that the Jets need to overhaul their defensive personnel because they may become more of a 3-4 base defense is a little silly.
Will there be personnel changes based on scheme fit? Absolutely – just as there are anytime a coordinator changes. But to suggest that a huge change is necessary because they may run more 3-4 ignores the reality of today’s game. Teams are in 5 and 6 DB back looks far more often than they’re not these days…regardless of whether they operate a 3-4 or 4-3 base.
I also think Arvell Reese is scheme neutral. If they pick him at 2 it’s because they believe he can be a game wrecker and that they can figure out ways to maximize his skill set regardless of what look they’re in.

All that said, Dunbar is a good hire. Welcome back!

  6. Historically, the jets have had a good D when they utilize a 3-4. Draft a solid NT and DE and move McDonald to OLB to just rush the QB. Why draft Reese to rush the QB when you already have Mcdonald?

  7. we can’t fix everything in one off-season this off-season. The emphasis should be on starting closest to the line of scrimmage and working our way out with best available players with the overall goal of stopping the run and establishing a running game. draft franchise Qb next off season then focus on WR 2 and defensive secondary

  8. Almost all 3-4s now in days run out of a 5-2 look anyway. I'm not sure Glenn is going down switching what he likes when his job is on the line.

  9. I feel like Jermaine Johnson can hold up as a 3/4 outside LB. Similar body type to Calvin Pace and Bryan Thomas. The OLB also needs to set the edge defensively where WMIII struggles

  10. Help, I have silly questions…
    #1: Isn't a 4-3 a better/ stronger scheme?
#2: If Glenn is calling plays on Defense, would the switch be a good thing considering (I believe) he was working with a 4-3 in Detroit? (On top of all the other shit that went on here, now he would have to adjust to calling a different system)
