‘Really disappointing’: Jets coach Arniel vents on Montreal Canadiens fans taking over in Winnipeg

  1. These “articles” are useless in the first place, but it kinda made me chuckle this time; as much as Arniel was disappointed in Habs fans taking over the Winnipeg stands, I have to say that I was pretty disappointed in the way that the Habs players took over on the Winnipeg ice…

  2. lol well it happens all the time. Leaf fans. Bruins fans. Hell even Flyers and Oilers fans.
    First day in Winnipeg Arniel?

  3. Honestly, the Leafs game and Oilers game were both just as taken over… and I say that as someone who was at all three.

Perhaps they should start actually caring what they put on the ice and how they run their organization.

  4. I noted that he said “in my 4 years of being back” when he said how bad it was. The thing is, it makes complete sense that it would be the worst this year. The Jets were a playoff team the first 3 years, so naturally there would be less people willing to sell their tickets to Habs fans.

The team is in 28th place, I’d sell my ticket at an overinflated value to Leafs/Habs fans too

  5. As a season ticket member, selling a leafs game or oilers game during the winter holidays makes another game free. Sorry, not sorry.

  6. People forget when the Jets left a lot of people started liking other teams. My family are huge Leafs fans. There usually 6-9 of them going to the Jets games when the Leafs play here

  7. Poor form from Arniel. This happens in basically every rink. Team has been shit all year long and rink has still been selling out most nights and you’re gonna take a shit on the fans over this. Nice

  8. “At the end of the day, I take no responsibility for the Jets being shit and being more of a draw for opposing fans than for our own.” – S.Arniel

  9. I mean this is something that happens every time the Habs or Leafs are in town. If Arniel is upset that it was worse this time than usual, maybe he should focus on putting a better product on the ice.

  10. What did you even remotely give Jets fans to attend the game, much less make noise about? Arniel should get lost already.

  11. There was no student ticket offer for this game, so clearly the org itself didn’t care to prevent this so I’m not sure why it’s all our fault.

  12. Arniel just aint that guy tbh. The team sucks but hes been outcoached almost every game this year it seems. Slow to make adjustments

  13. BS! The Jets gave their fans 1 goal to cheer and let MTL score a bunch. We need a better Jets team period!

Jet’s motto in a Shoresy nutshell:
“the kids don’t want it they don’t skate they don’t score they don’t hit thev don’t fight they FLOAT they don’ love to win they DON’T HATE TO LOSE i hate losing so much!”

  14. The team had the opportunity to quiet the crowd, but couldn’t hang on. Is it disappointing? Yes, but the team hasn’t shown they can dominate a game from start to finish.

Their goaltending has been below average. Their offense gets shut down effortlessly. Their defense is penetrated with ease.

Give Jets fans a reason to hold onto their ticket instead of blaming them.

  15. I’m a Jets fan because I live in Winnipeg and I like to cheer for the home team but I was always a Canadiens fan growing up and your darn tootin’ I went to the game last night in my Canadiens sweater! They’re a young, fun team to watch and I’ve seen the Jets play 100 times. Facts are that the Jets suck this year and a lot of that falls on Arneil.

  16. Then give us something to cheer about. The boys looked like their speedos and clubs were packed, plus the walkers for.the oldies.

  17. You want more Jets fans to show up, give us something to show up for. Why would I pay to watch old, slow, boring players playing for the 40 minutes that the top line isn’t on the ice?

Call up the younger players on the Moose and give me a reason to be excited and I’ll watch a game. Yes they may lose. They likely will. However, at least I can watch them lose playing faster more exciting hockey than this non-sense.

  18. Go to any Canadian vs Canadian team and you’re going to see the exact same thing. I was in Edmonton to watch the Jets play in December and it was at least 1/3 Winnipeg fans.

  19. Yes captain obvious, it is disappointing. Its also really disappointing how this team continues to wallow in denial.

  20. Maybe if you beat them 5-1 they wouldn’t be so loud. Arniel is just trying to deflect attention away from the fact that this team has quit on him and the season and in typical TN fashion he blames the paying customers instead of looking in a mirror.

  21. I have never yelled true north during the national anthem because I don’t like to cheapen it with some corporate shoutout but maybe ALL the fans should pick a game and not yell it out to send a message.

  22. I wish the people wearing Habs jerseys were fans who traveled in from Montreal. But from the conversations I’ve had, these are people from Winnipeg who have never even been to Montreal.

To all the Winnipegers who feel the need to say the Habs are their team, just remember how many games Montreal played in Winnipeg between 1997 and 2010.

  23. I am not paying $300 fucking dollars for lower bowl seats or $120 for nose bleeds. My sentiment is the same for leafs and oilers games.

Personally I’d rather see the games where lower bowl tickets cost $120-$200, and nosebleeds are $68.

  24. Half of the red habs jerseys were probably jets fans just looking for something to cheer about, 5-1 loss is pretty disappointing too coach, zero fight in this team, fetti can’t buy a goal and Nyquist has completely stopped trying.

  25. It is disgusting. That many Montréal Canadiens fans in Winnipeg. People really need to get with a program. This is not the 1960s.

  26. The whole damn season has been disappointing. Chevy signing old players thinking they can compete ? Jets are losing. No playoffs. No shock.
