[Passan] Indicted Cleveland Guardians pitcher Emmanuel Clase is accused of throwing suspect pitches to benefit bettors in at least 48 games over two years, significantly more than was initially revealed by federal prosecutors, according to a court document filed Thursday.

  1. Is he liable via civil suits as well? Dude is going to be sued to the moon by books or bettors if not both

  2. At the very fucking least these sports betting apps have to get rid of player prop bets like “throws a first pitch strike/ball.” Way too easy for one idiot to manipulate it. Sure he eventually got caught but not before doing this at least 48 FUCKING TIMES?!

  3. Maybe sports leagues shouldn’t partner with gambling companies? Maybe legalizing gambling wasn’t a good idea?

  4. That’d be a quarter of his games since 2023 that he’s sabotaged. He’s played in 197 games since then.

I wouldn’t be shocked at all if some of those games were in the playoffs.

  5. A reminder that Clase fundamentally nearly cost the Guardians 3 postseason games after being rock solid all season to that point. He did fundamentally cost them twice.

If he was pulling this shit and it resulted in those losses, especially the near loss and then collapse against the Yankees, holy shit fuck that guy.

  6. Throw the book at him, no plea deal. Make him the next cautionary tale for athletes everywhere.

  7. If you were salaried at 100k a year, the initial reported winnings from these bets were around $10.04 roughly

I deal with theft in construction constantly. The stupidity of some of the guys who lose their job, employment opportunities and so on for a burrito or a soda is wild, but this is even stupider

  8. Prop bets really shouldn’t be legal in general. It’s way too easy to manipulate and rig the bets. There’s people betting on what color the Gatorade dumped on the winning coach of the Super Bowl will be, that type of thing seems extremely easy to rig

  9. The Yankees playoff series is listed quite a few times.

    Yikes….

Sorry Yankees fans. This throws a permanent asterisk on the series.

  10. This dude literally had a 0.61 ERA in 2024. Imagine how good you have to be to waste pitches, issue only 10 walks all year and have a pretty much historic ERA.

You’d have to be a pitcher capable of making 100 mil+ over the course of your career.

  11. He’s probably the only dude who has ever been able to throw 102 mph cutters with pinpoint precision… and somehow he came to the conclusion that THIS was a good idea for accruing wealth.

Dude really does belong on a short list for the dumbest athletes of all time.

  12. Unless they have a paper trail of him agreeing to it, how can they really prove he was throwing suspect pitches? I mean, can’t he just say “no man I was trying to throw a strike but I missed

  13. I was at one of his very last games at home. He strolled onto the field to a stadium of cheers, custom video on the big screen, idk maybe even fireworks. Took the plate and promptly threw two pitches straight into the dirt. We were all like, is he okay? Is he injured? It was obvious something was different.

Turns out he’s a complete moron. Just threw it all away for what?
