Mackey thinks the Pirates will add Vientos, Quintana and McCutchen
February 6, 2026
I really like Vientos and Quintana as additions, and while I'd prefer Ozuna over McCutchen I won't be mad about them bringing him back either.

If this actually happens I will be fuckin’ THRILLED.
Mark vientos is another Ike Davis
Mackey might have said it, but since I’m hearing it from Poni it must be bunk.
I’d love this
it’s just so so so hard to tell speculation from real sourced reporting and real insight-based predictions. Especially with a guy like Mackey whose role kinda floats from “vibes” to “hard reporting” without real clear lines of when he is doing so.
like if there were real reports coming from sources in the team that these three players had a good shot at being on the team…. like… wouldnt that have been reported already?
idk this seems more like “what i would do if i was GM” than a real actual source-based “the team is telling me that these things will happen” prediction.
what am i missing on vientos? has there been real actual reporting out there that something is close, aside from Filliponi puking it out on twitter the other day?
I think that there’s too many question marks surrounding Vientos to the extent that I’m not convinced that the Mets would trade him. Granted, they have a crowded infield – particularly at 3rd, but Bichette has the opt out after year 1 and the Mets don’t appear to have a permanent solution to DH (or 1B for that matter as we don’t really know how the Polanco experiment will end up). DH suits Vientos better anyway because he is not a good fielder.
Why it very very interesting?
Fuckin’ Quintana… that creep can roll, man.
I heard this interview on the Fan a couple days ago. Poni just gave Mackey a list of names and had him say “yes or no” on if these guys are going to be Pirates. It was just Mackey using logic and speculating. I like Mackey more than most, but he is just speculating most of the time.
