Per Evan Petzold on his Days of Roar Podcast, Reese Olson may not be ready for Opening Day.

  1. This guy can’t stay healthy. I’m at the point where I’m fully expecting Melton to have the 5 starter job locked up by mid spring.

  2. For comparison, Reese has been available in 60% of the Tigers games the past 3 seasons.  He did make it more than 2/3rds of a season his first two years.

Parker Meadows availability rate the past three seasons is 37%.

  3. the silver-lining here is that this might mean he can be available in the playoffs this year. I really hope he can come back and stay healthy, man. his offspeed stuff is just wicked

  4. Omg, cut the cord with this unfortunate but talented guy?
When was his last healthy season?

  5. We somehow went from ‘he could be ready late in the playoffs’ to ‘might not be on opening day roster’???? This really blows Olson is so good

  6. I feel like this sub way overrates Olsen. If someone can’t stay healthy, they really aren’t valuable at all

  7. Never expected him to be in the rotation anyways. Get 60IP out of the pen and I’m happy.

  8. I love Olson but he is not a starter. He cannot last. This man should be moved to the bullpen to preserve his career.

  9. Tigers pitching roster was getting a little bloated where tigers were going to have to make a decision on who to option or potentially DFA. I figured there would be a phantom injury or two where guys can hang back in Lakeland for some time and take extra time to ramp up. Seems like they’re laying the groundwork for Olson to be one of those guys. A nice way to limit Olsons innings and keep him fresh for end of year while also allowing a guy like melton or even breiske to make the team outa camp.
