Absolute legend. Will miss Buck and Dan together, one of the best duos in the MLB. Glad to see Buck moving on and enjoying this chapter of his life after all of his health challenges. Thanks Buck!
Damn. Legit end of an era.
Gonna miss Buck in the booth, enjoy retirement, Buck!
Damn…it won’t be the same without Buck in the booth. Luckily we have Dun Shulman, but Buck will be sorely missed!
A baseball lifer.
Absolute fucking *Legend* with a capital. Man is a treasure for Jays fans across Canada.
Wow. Blue Jays games won’t be the same without Buck. I wish him well in retirement.
Triple Play baseball commentary legend.
Wild career. Mid backup catcher who played 17 (!!!) years. Became a broadcaster, then became Jays manager for a year, then back to broadcaster. Wild ride.
We knew him as a player, we knew him as a coach, and we knew him as a broadcaster. Very few people have had such an impact on the Blue Jays franchise. You will be missed Buck and I hope the Jays get your on the Ring of Excellence during this 50th season.
Get that man on the Level of Excellence as soon as possible!
Level of Excellence right now. On opening day and instead of throwing the first pitch, he should catch it then act like he was run over blocking the plate.
I’ll miss him so much! Jays baseball just won’t be the same!
I really liked Buck when he was with the O’s broadcast team. I’ll always remember that one time I met him: he walked into the RadioShack where I was working and asked if I could help him upgrade his Nextel phone to a Blackberry. I said unfortunately no; he said thank you and walked out of my life forever. Enjoy your retirement, king.
50th anniversary as good a time as any to get him on the Level of Excellence.
Hell, give him a broken leg double play statue alongside Joe.

I always liked listening to him in highlights and condensed games. Itās always rough when a team loses their longtime announcer. He was a legend, hope he enjoys his retirement.
Awwww man. I hope Bucky gets a long and happy retirement, but as a Blue Jays fans this is still heartbreaking.

Legend. And thanks for leaving us with one of the best soundbites of all time last season.
*The Yankees are not a good baseball team.*
Put Buck in the Level of Excellence!
I hope they bring him back for the odd guest inning. Love Buck. Enjoy your retirement, get well soon! (He’s been fighting cancer again)
What? Noo! I need his voice for this Jays run!
Swing and a drive.. Get up ball, get up, gone!
The man deserves his retirement, heās 77 and the last few years heās had would tax anyone. God damn Iām going to miss him though
A couple of years back (maybe a few years, time has no meaning anymore) I remember Strider pitching against the Jays. There was a camera shot of him warming up and a long silence till finally Buck broke it with something like āLook at his thighs!ā
Just absolutely cracks me up every time. You could hear him thinking about it in the silence
I donāt have much in my life and Buck made baseball feel like home. š¢
I hope he lives a long and healthy life, he deserves it.
the voice of Triple Play 99 and thus many lazy mornings/ afternoons in college
“Aw Buck he CRUSHED it!”
One of the best. Hereās to a healthy and happy retirement, Buck
Level of Excellence now. You never know what tomorrow brings.
IF he isn’t throwing out the first pitch at the home opener, it’ll be a shame (assuming he wants the attention, knowing Buck it might take a little convincing). I’d love to have a moment where the fans can let him know just how much we love him.

This makes the pain of not winning Game 7 even worse for me.
Awwww, man… I’ve watched a lot of Blue Jays games over the years specifically because of Dan Shulman and Buck Martinez.
I’ll still listen, because Dan is one of my favorite pbp guys in the business, but it just won’t be the same without Buck (like most of last season was, tbf).
Best of luck, Buck. I wish you nothing but a long and happy retirement.
Man Iām gonna miss himš¢ Iām gonna miss hearing him yell āswing and a driveā always an iconic line. Thank you buck for all your hilarious moments, and the greatest line ever āthe Yankees, theyāre not a good baseball team, I donāt care what people sayā
Mr. Blue Jay. Put him on the Level of Excellence, Rogers, while he’s still here to enjoy the moment. He deserves that.Ā
It feels a little less like baseball without Buck. Absolutely heartbreaking. I’m so glad they got to go on this run and that he got to experience it in the booth. And just like when he broke his leg and finished the play at the end of his playing career, it was clear that he was exercising great strength to remain on the broadcast during the playoff run.Ā
He and his voice are like a familiar friend throughout every summer as far back as I can remember. It’s comfort. It’s a sign that we’ve all survived another long, cold Winter, and better days are ahead.Ā
I’m reminded of when he was asked if his doctor had cleared him to return to work in September, and his answer was something along the lines of: “No, but I decided I wanted to go back anyway.”
Love you, Buck.Ā
SWINGANDADRIVE
NOOOOO!!
Ugh I wanted to win it for Buck last year so badly.
The idea of not having his sweet voice signaling the arrival of Spring … man I’m so sad.
We love you Buck.
I was never a Blue Jays fan, but I started watching a lot of games because my son loves Bo Bichette. Over the years I have really grown to love Buck Martinez. Bottom line, baseball is better when Buck is at the ballpark. Congratulations to him and his family. What a wonderful baseball life.
