Absolute legend
Watching number 20 run home made me feel athletic. What was that?
Joe Carter is rightfully getting a statue, and now with Buck’s retirement the Jays really should include a statue of this play to go alongside his name on the level of excellence
Saw this live as a kid and my mind was blown at how he managed to tag out the second runner after getting trucked. Mr Blue Jay.
Watching the Jays is just not going to be the same without him ðŸ˜
Huge cajones!
Thank you for continually cutting to that one man in the stands. Really helps me see the flow of the play
They should cut to that random guy FOUR TIMES instead of following the ball. That would be good.

And if I’m not mistaken, that voice narrating the play is none other than Rick Rizzs, who himself is retiring after the 2026 season.
Both him and Buck are absolute legends.
One of those plays that makes baseball what it is.
I don’t want a time machine to kill baby Hitler. I want a time machine so I could play baseball in the 80s. Most of these guys just look like normal dudes.
This play gave me a soft spot for Gorman Thomas for seeing what happened to Buck and letting up. 🫡
Baseball players used to be built so differently. Beer guts. Looked 50 years old at 25. Just a thing of beauty.
Please keep posting vintage clips. This is my favorite kind of baseball.
Ok the guy in green is ELECTRIC
Two former Brewers involved, with Buck and Storm’n Gorman.
I love you Buck Martinez.
Being a nice guy can get you a long way. He was a bad player, wasn’t a good coach either, and certainly wasn’t a good commentator, yet people are calling him a Blue Jay legend. Lol
This play was pretty sick tho.
My wife thinks his voice is annoying, so I showed her this video clip, and she still thinks his voice is annoying
Kind of a bitch move to try and score while a player is down with an injury.
So what’s with the shots of the crowd?
I followed the jays after the all star break. Really enjoyed his commentary. And him being on national games made it feel big too. Didn’t have the context from when he played. Nice post.
Oh man, this play was the first thing i thought of when i saw the news. I only know about it because it was featured on a VHS tape I had as a kid that I watched over and over, “This Week in Baseball’s Greatest Plays”. [Here is the clip from that VHS](https://youtu.be/TNXgpUTCaPE?t=1460).
I remember that one, and then another catcher collision: [Bo Jackson running over Rick Dempsey](https://youtu.be/TNXgpUTCaPE?t=1700) I mostly remember that one because of the great line, “I knew I was in trouble when they sent the proctologist in to set my thumb”
I never, ever, ever want to see anyone’s reaction while the ball is still in play. Jesus.
For people thinking they cut to the fans during the live shot: See how toward the end the audio stays the same, but they cross-dissolve into a later shot of Martinez being carried off the field? That means this was an edited package, where they cut in the fans’ reactions. (Not saying they were filming these guys all game and could do this as they pleased, but they were doing that fan shot for the purpose of showing their in-the-moment reactions to the next exciting play that came up, via post-production.)
Just my educated(ish) opinion.
Is that Rizz on the call? He is retiring at the end of this season.

The linked clip doesn’t really do justice to this crazy play, for more detail here’s the jomboy breakdown: https://youtu.be/2Weql3etqZo?si=pB2bBro-O6hRtSRX
Barfield had an absolute cannon.
