BREAKING: D-backs Trade Blaze Alexander to Orioles for Kade Strowd & Prospects | Snakes Territory

On Thursday afternoon, the Diamondbacks traded utility man Blaze Alexander to the Baltimore Orioles for an intriguing young reliever in right-hander Kade Strowd and a pair of prospects. How has Strowd looked in his young major-league career, and what is there to like about prospects Wellington Aracena and Jose Meija?

On the flip-side, how are the Diamondbacks going to manage without Alexander in the infield? What does this mean for Jordan Lawlar, Tim Tawa, Ildemaro Vargas and others? Will the D-backs need to backfill externally?

Jesse Friedman and Jack Sommers break down all angles of the deal in the latest episode of Snakes Territory.

  1. He wasn’t going to be in there long term and the Dbacks need a kitchen sink approach to the bullpen so it makes sense, but nothing has felt good in their moves the last week here.

  2. Terrible move Hazen. The outfield is going to be pathetic. Carroll, Thomas, and Barrosa/Tawa. Barrosa is a JOKE!!! He is not even a Major League talent. Tawa is a career Minor Leaguer (that's it). Thomas is very good defensively, but his bat is beyond horrible. He WILL hit .210 this season (take it to the bank). So wish they would have kept McCarthy and Blaze, and shit canned Barrosa, Tawa, Thomas, and Del Castillo. Hazen has LOST his mind, and the confidence of the fans………..

  3. I for one have seen enough of barrosa.
Maybe ok as a fourth outfielder but that's about it. Give guys a day off their feet and you know you will get ok defense but the bat is horrendous. Kind of stinks we traded away one of our best outfield arms in blaze lol. But he is out of options and I believe they sold high on him. Overall this can work out good as the shoe wizard said they loaded up on arms someone is going to stand out but for once in the last few years our line up looks a little sketchy

  4. I can convince myself with Tim Tawa at utility, Lawler in the outfield, Vargas utility infield. And ADC at DH.

As much as Corbin Carroll takes responsibility on. He could take CF against LHP. Lawler in RF and Tawa in LF.

Lourdes returns Tawa gets optioned. Only because Tawa has one more option than Lawler.

It’s make it or break it for Lawler. One option left. And if he doesn’t prove his value. He’s going to be on the trade block or already is but they don’t want to lose him for such a low value trade.

Barrosa is the odd man out. Even if he’s their best CF besides Thomas or Corbin. I’m guessing they don’t want to DFA him without getting something in return.

  5. I just want Lawlar to be played full time in LF, we saw how he looked in September with constant playing time.

Just give him the year to sort it out, and make a decision after that.

Never seen a team treat a consensus MLB top prospect like this

  6. I don't know, his minor league numbers were horrible,… but if he could keep up what he did in 26 innings last year, this could be a good move.. I am just not confident he can sustain those numbers. The best thing Hazen has done all off season, was not trade Marte. Besides that, he seems to be dumpster diving. The Carlos Santana signing is a joke. I didn't like the McCarthy trade, I really don't like it now with Blaze gone. I never want to see Barrosa on the roster again and unlike Jack, I bit sold on minor league at best Tawa. Let's hope Lawler finds his way and Waldschmidt makes the team. I guess when Ken wants to cut payroll, this is what we get.

  7. Why trade Blaze over Lawler? He hits better! He can play left field with a cannon for an arm. Hazen is a fool. I think this was really going to be Blaze's year. I really wish I wasn't a fan of this team. He could have at least brought Goldy home… What a pathetic offseason😡

  8. Oh' Hazen wants a utility player that can play all over. We had Blaze for that! What a fool…That's the problem with this poverty franchise. They have to trade away our young talent just to fill holes, Instead of our cheap as owner just signing a couple talented receivers!

  9. Love this trade!!!! Finally Hazen did something right. Trading a UTILITY player for bullpen help. Should've traded McCarthy last offseason when he had trade value. Hazen didnt miss on this though. And all the crybaby Blaze lovers can go watch him in Baltimore. Makes a ton of sense to trade expendable players and have an influx of INF and OFs.
