This is an example of what our roster could be like where we get:
– Wagler or some pg/combo guard from the 2026 draft pick #7
– morez johnson from 2026 draft pick #30
– keon ellis or some good backup sg with the mle for around 15.5 mil, I doubt cleveland can match that
– tari eason we use our 20.8 mil tpe with the rockets because they're in tax hell next year and can't afford to pay tari so we do a sign and trade and send a first and some seconds for him. everyone else would just offer the mle we can offer more or so i think idk exactly how background stuff works.
– klay expires by 2026-27 so he's gone by 2027-28
– pj is prolly traded by then as well because he makes too much to be a bench guy.
salaries included showing we're like 18 mil under even the tax for that year which is 211 mil
The AD trade's cap flex and execptions, if used right, can easily net us a contending team in the next few years.

That team looks like it can contend for playins absolutely abbysmal perimeter shooting.
Morez Johnson and Keaton Wagler is about as a good of a draft as you can hope for.
I would even hope to maybe hit someone good in the 2nd round this year with our two picks.
Kyrie has to go. He will not help us when it matters in 5 oder 6 years. Better get assets for him now
2028 can’t come sooner
Trash. This team got 3/4ths of their wins off the back of AD. I’ll reserve judgement until the start of next season, but it looks like the Mavs are running Coop into a perpetual looser while asking him to be young Jesus. Great plan so far.
Unlike everyone here, I like your plan. I do think Ellis will get more money than he is worth (I would absolutely not pay him the MLE, as an example. So far he showed nothing but an overcharged Thybulle skillset) and so will Eason if the Rockets shop him around, but I like the overall concepts here. This is a team that can grow and get court muscle by 2028, specially if fourth year Flagg takes the Tatum jump. Last year I would have questions over Eason, but at his current 4.5-ish attempts, that is decent if we stagger his minutes with Kyrie and Max.
I will need to wait until the end of college season, but with Stirtz, Acuff and even Meleek Thomas lurking in the late lotto plus this TPE, I do wonder if we will not make moves around a soft trade down while getting a solid return in a ready player that does not push us in 2nd apron territory. People that are in a rush because “Muh Hornets have our pick” are idiots. I could not care less if the fucking Hornets draft 1st overall. We need to build and develop a team to compete in 2-3 years, not force a 2nd round exit just to have the pleasure of seeing Charlotte drafting 15th overall.
Kyrie – Christie – Mikal/OG/KingJames – Flagg – Lively
Sexton (MLE) – Wagler/Philon – Naji – Gafford
Tyus – Caleb – Doedoe – Capela – ((BAE guy)) – GOATPOWELL
We should trade Lively. Actually we should have traded him a while ago
What are you smoking? That team looks like a play in team at best. It’s over. These Mavs will suck for years. Cooper is great. Everyone else is trash
Play-in roster with at least 3 key players that are highly injury prone.
I 100% agree on Wagler and his fit on this team with Flagg.
I like the archetypes of the players you chose like Eason and Ellis, as they are the shooting. Eason in particular, has weaknesses that are countered by Flagg, and somewhat vice-versa. All good defensive players.
As for me, I still like the idea of drafting a JT Toppin (if he falls) at the OKC 1st round pick over Morez Johnson Jr. — in hoping that Toppin would develop a shot and be able to play relief for Flagg at and slot into his exact same role (without any shooting threat). This is basically what PJ is now, while PJ shot better in college, it hasn’t translated much in the pros. Toppin obviously rawer, cheaper, and younger.
This fanbase has roleplayeritis. After the ad trade we have are in contention for having the worst 3rd best player in the league. On top of that most good teams 4th best player are easily better then everyone on our roster not named cooper flagg or kyrie irving.
i like this a lot. i don’t know what ppl were expecting – this is maximizing literally every available opportunity we have. i know a lot of ppl are targeting tari. any other alternatives if his market seems too competitive? same thing with ellis. i’m sure these guys are on the lakers target list – unless they just try to copy the mavs & go for grimes, DJJ etc lol.
good to see wagler moving up too. still think flemings would be nice but if we’re assuming we land around 6 or 7 – then this is the absolutely the right pick.
ppl are overlooking what someone like morez off the bench could do for us.
we do have the Suns SRP which is projected to be 51. Jojo Tugler is projected at 50 so there’s a shot he’s also available for us as well – which is encouraging. morez & tugler would both be nice off the bench prospects with high motors & upside.
i saw in another comment you’d like to flip the 30th pick to move up. that was my biggest gripe with the AD trade package. if we could’ve just got anything in the mid 20s like 25th pick essentially – that would have been so ideal. we have at least 2-4 players we could’ve included to make a swap to move up in the teens. there’s at least a couple of solid guards & forwards who would make our draft haul such a steal.
I guess I’m in the minority thinking this is an amazing team for where we stand today. Also this post is a decent amount of effort so I appreciate your thoughts.
If we can get Wagler with 6th pick out of the other options (Flemings mocked 5th, Brown/Philon/Acuff mocked lower than Wagler) we’d be in an awesome spot for shooting. He’s a standout shooter at the moment, reminds me of Kon the way he’s rising up the mock drafts.
Eason is great and Keon is great, guys that dont need high usage and can play well next to Coop.
I personally think we should move some of our current C’s for a stretch big. To me, Coop excels at driving and having a shooting big bring shot blockers out the paint would be ideal. He struggled more when we ran 2 big lineups, improved with just one C in the paint, and now imagine a Chet-type player with Coop… that would be insane.
Set for the play in
I think this is a sound projection at a path the team could take, and a worthwhile exercise. I personally love Wagler and Morez too. Like you note in a below comment I’d be real curious if they look to package #30 and PJ or Gafford or someone to move up into the middle of the first, I’d love for them to snag a skilled big in that area like Steinbach. I think adding frontcourt shooting and skill into this rotation would be a big addition.
How tf we go to the finals and now were in rebuild mode again! lmao fuck nico!!! we had a team built to go back to the finals and with the additions of klay and naji we couldve actually won the chip! now were back in rebuild mode just like when we as at lukas rookie year
You’re missing the part where mavs will get the 1st pick in the draft. Peterson Kyrie Maxi Coop Lively.
Not a mavs fan but do you think you guys should keep Kyrie or move him in the off season
One thing I was thinking about is hpw does kyrie fit into our new picture? Everyone talking about building around Coop but I haven’t heard Kyries name even come up at all in all the stuff I’ve listened too.
Genuinely curious. Im digging our new roster.
You kidding me bro Martin straight trash 🤣😂I hope we don’t keep him any longer
