We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Terrance Gore.

A member of the back-to-back AL champion and 2015 World Series champion Kansas City Royals, Gore played eight Major League seasons in all from 2014-2022. He also appeared for the Cubs, Dodgers, Braves, and Mets.

The speedy outfielder and pinch-running specialist stole 43 bases in his regular season career while only being caught nine times. He was 5-for-6 in Postseason stolen base attempts and stole 324 bases in 11 Minor League seasons.

Gore was 34 years old.

  1. Young enough that I was wondering just a couple years ago if he’d get the call for some playoff team in August. Awful news.

  2. Kind of terrifying this happened during a routine surgery. A reminder that life is precious and fragile.

  3. We had a chance to meet him while he was on a minor league stint with the Royals. Such a nice kid. His autographed baseball sits in our memorabilia collection.

    Rest in peace, speedster.

  4. Dude’s last plate appearance was in 2019 and still got 2 World Series rings after that to precede retirement. That’s so cool, RIP.

  5. He was a huge part of our late inning strategy in 2014 and 2015. I will always have fond memories of him stealing bases at will. A Royals legend in his own right.

  6. His steal in the bottom of the 8th of the 2014 Wildcard game of OAK vs KC was a deciding factor in KC pulling through in one of the greatest games and comebacks of all time. The man is a legend in the hearts of many and will surely be missed.

Thanks for all the memories, Mr. Gore.

  7. Was on 3 different World Series winning rosters. More stolen bases than plate appearances. Rest easy.

  8. Wow. I remember him playing for the Cubs. The broadcaster at the time said “the only real question is will he stop on the bag of blow right past it!!”

  9. I hope the guys from that championship team are okay 😔 I’m sure a few guys must be taking it a bit hard. Can only imagine the type of bond you develop during such a stressful environment

  10. Thoughts go out to his wife and family. He was exciting to watch on the basepaths. Tragic and awful.

  11. One thing I do remember is using him a lot on my bench in mlb the show 🥲. Since he was automatic on the basepaths and a terrific late game defensive replacement, solidly above average at both and able to offset my slugger type OFs with the little things a team needs. And he was young so he would get decent rating boosts in franchise mode :] a player any true baseball fan can appreciate. Like a basketball player who specifies only on rebounding, or a wide receiver who only destroys on 5-8 yards catches, useful and exciting in its own way
