Would a Trade Help FIX the Colorado Avalanche’s Terrible Power Play?

Is a trade-deadline addition the missing piece to fix the Colorado Avalanche power play, or is the solution already in-house? With the Avs sitting at just 15.1% on the man advantage and near the bottom of the NHL, we debate whether a true “power-play specialist” is worth targeting before the March 6, 2026 trade deadline. From Steven Stamkos as a potential sniper if the Nashville Predators retain salary, to Oliver Ekman-Larsson as a second-unit quarterback, we break down fits around Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar—plus a spicy Nazem Kadri reunion idea. 1. They need to fire Hakstol. I think why they hired Hakstol was because he had the Leafs at 6th in the league, that was in 2019. Not sure if CMACK expected the results to be the same. Watching past games they need a second punch like Mikko was left wing, was that suppose to be Necas? My same comment move MacKinnon and Makar off of PP1. Since 2023 MacKinnon has been on PP1 and it has taken a major issue. Opponents know Mack is on PP1, and they adjust. Bednar too afraid to move MacKinnon and Makar to PP2. Now to your comments for trade deadline. There is rumors that Kadri wants to go to a team in the Central but not the Avs. Stamkos would be an interesting fit, he is also 36 years old. Stamkos is a right wing, the Avs need someone who can be a left wing. Here is a question, is there anyone from the Rangers since they are having a fire sale. Maybe like Raddysh or Cuylle, interesting

  2. No, they need to stop letting MacKinnon coach the PP. Every power play is about trying to get the puck to MacKinnon or Makar by making high risk passes through traffic that result in us also giving up so many odd man goals. We need bodies down around the crease and to be attacking the net rather than looking for highlight reel shot attempts.

  3. Knowing now that LA had to only give up a handful of peanuts to get Panarin, Avalanche really should have went for Panarin even as a rental. 17 out of his 19 goals have been on the power play..
