Ian Rapaport on Bears promoting Press Taylor:
“The Bears are promoting passing game coordinator Press Taylor to offensive coordinator, giving coach Ben Johnson a new top lieutenant, per The Insiders. Taylor was an OC with the #Jaguars until 2024 before working with Johnson. With Declan Doyle in Baltimore, Taylor is the OC. He then served as a senior offensive assistant with the Colts in 2021 before getting his first shot at an OC job with the Jaguars from 2022-24. With those Jags under head coach Doug Pederson, Taylor coached an offense that finished 10th in both points and yards in his first year, during which he called plays in the second halves of games.”

  1. I would have preferred an experience OC so that the Bears and Johnson had fresh ideas. Promoting someone from within, gives you nothing more than the same ideas as the last season. Teams need to evolve and change, otherwise they become stale and predictable. Time will tell, one of the problems in the past is the Bears after 1 or 2 seasons, became stale and predictable, I hope this isn't the case next season with the Bears.

  2. Sounds good. As a non-play-caller, knowing his work ethic and him knowing your system first-hand seem like the most important traits, so glad they promoted from within.

  3. Everywhere Taylor has been as an OC he’s brought the team down. I know he’s not calling plays but he didn’t in Jax either. Just gonna have to trust Ben I guess.

  4. If we can constantly play 4 qtrs, we can average 30-37 points a game. Seems like we put up 21 points in a 7-10 minute span in every game. Go Bears
    🐻 👇

  5. If ben hires a bad OC Ben can fire that person at any time and fully take over as OC. Dennis Allen is a former head coach so he should be able to step up and between the two of them we are still in good shape in the worst case scenario.

  6. IDK I will give it a B+, yeas in coach Johnson we must trust..so much better then any past coaches we've had for decades. Seems like the OC position on the Bears with Johnson as coach is like an OC in training position. Hope the transition goes smoothly without any glitches

  7. It’s about continuity. Ben Johnson wants to maintain the structure. Doyle and Taylor worked closely together with the understanding that Doyle would be exiting in 2 years. Taylor will be involved in maintaining the focal point of the execution of Coach Johnson’s offense-attention to detail. Doyle played a significant role in attention to detail in terms of play execution. This is extremely time consuming. Johnson relied on Doyle and Taylor who assisted Doyle. Taylor will take on that role.

  8. Just so you know that I AM THE ULTIMATE BEARS FAN…when the Bears lost to the Rams on January 18th, later that night, (actually January 19th), around 2:00 AM, I rushed myself to the hospital, where I had a HEART ATTACK!!!
Now, if that's not a TRUE FAN…I don't know what is!!!

  9. Once Declan left it was super obvious Press would be promoted bc the BC guy was more of a passing game coordinator and they didn’t give him a title yet. They had this lined up for awhile. Ben needs more help setting up the passing game each week.

  10. Press Taylor was the offensive coordinator during the 2022 and 2023 season 2022. Trevor Lawrence was a pro bowler and won a playoff game. He was also a 4000 yard passer, miss me.

  11. Let’s be honest people didn’t want Declan Doyle at the time when he was hired and he did a good job so I think Ben knows what he’s doing
