Eagles LB Nakobe Dean Reveals Interest in Joining Broncos in Free Agency

  1. Per Zack Kelberman at SI, Dean “made clear” that he’d prefer to remain in Philadelphia, but he likes “watching the Broncos’ defense” and would have interest in joining Vance Joseph’s unit.

  2. He would be a great fit. One of if not the best blitzing LB in the league would slot right in. I was just thinking about this the other day. And he’s definitely an athletic step up.

  3. Me before this year: “Hell yeah, Dre Greenlaw.”

Me this year: “Hell yeah, Nakobe Dean.”

  4. Hard pass – he’s injury prone and we already have that issue with Greenlaw. Also he might be costly.

I think we end up bringing back one of Singleton or Strnad. Then we draft an ILB for depth. There’s some good options in this draft class

  5. It wouldn’t be a good fit because

    1. He’s injured frequently which is why he fell in the draft

    2. He’s a Will/weakside LB with his size, which Dre Greenlaw also is. As much as we want to complain about Singleton’s coverage, he is a pretty good tackler/run stopper which is what this team needs next to Greenlaw. Singleton’s game is a like a better version of when Todd Davis was the LB.

I think the best off-ball LB fit would be Devin Lloyd which would be a hefty price.

  6. Terrible fit IMO. Our entire front 5 is undersized and it’s shown up across multiple seasons when playing gap heavy running teams like the Bills and Lions. Putting a 230 pound ILB who needs space eaters in front of him to keep him clean isn’t going to work out well.

I also don’t think he’s all that much of a coverage LB vs what Denver already has. People need to understand that with all the man we play we ask more out of our ILBs than the rest of the league. It’s significantly easier to look “good” in coverage when your in a zone heavy scheme and never have to turn your back to the QB.

  7. He’d be a great fit as a stud on blitz and stunts. I’m wary of his ability to stay healthy and be a 3-down backer for 17+ games, but the talent and fit is there. I’d be more inclined to throw the bag at Devin Lloyd if we’re filling ILB via free agency.

  8. Just what we need, another frequently injured linebacker who could change the defense if he’s healthy

  9. Where’s a young Randy Gradishar when you really need him? I’d like to see Denver invest a draft pick or 2 on a thumper middle linebacker instead of bringing in another guy with a history of missing games due to injuries.
