7 years in Boston: 21.3 bWAR, .297/.350/.439, 108 OPS+, TWO world series victories, total salary: $20M
7 year deal in NYY: 9.6 bWAR, .264/.330/.386, 95 OPS+, ZERO world series, total salary: $153M
Sox got the best of him. Yeah. Yankees got the worst of him. Lol.
He was so damn fast, at a time the Red Sox just didn’t “do” speed. I remember seeing him in Pawtucket when he was there briefly. He hit a ground ball to the second baseman, who almost flubbed the play because he looked up and clearly was surprised by how far up the line Ells was.
He also once earned free tacos for everyone in America by stealing a base during Game 1 of the 2007 World Series
Leading to one of the more underrated nicknames in team history.
Shout out to Tacoby Bellsbury 🌮
Him showing up at Pedroia’s retirement ceremony in a Sox uni less than a year after his contract with the Yankees was up was an alltimer
I happened to be at his debut game at Fenway and was like, “Damn, that dude is fast!” Had no idea he was going to turn into an MVP caliber player for a stretch.
He’s from a small town in central Oregon, went to Oregon State where he was fantastic. Stole a base in in game 1 of the world series. It was great seeing a local kid, stay here to play college and go on to get a ring.Â
